GreyWoulf

JBsAnno
I can't type real well at 1:00 in the morning either. So, I'm just waiting for the stats to generate (thanks for the clue, Debs!) before I go to mingle Babble dreams with visions of sugarplums.
12:05 am
GreyWoulf

12:06 am
JBsAnno
Grey, that's amazing! Are you done ALREADY???!!!
12:06 am
JBsAnno
Oh, I just hit the magic refresh button.
That's much better now.
12:07 am
GreyWoulf
no-- you have to refresh to have the stats board show up sometimes
12:10 am
GreyWoulf
Time to set up the baby's surprise -- will be back in a few :)

Have a GREAT Christmas Day, Grey - merry wishes to you and yours!

That is so sweet, Woulf :)

I try....
12:40 am
sprite
In Holland, most people don't celebrate christmas with presents, because we have this very dutch holiday on december 5th called "Sinterklaas". It's a bit different then, I think. We have no presents today, but a nice christmas breakfast, time to sing together and be grateful for all we are given in our lives, and we make it a real family day.
12:41 am
sprite
Guess you do more than trying, dearheart. You are a more loving father than I ever had... more like the father of my own kids, actually, lol.
12:43 am
GreyWoulf
sprite -- your Xmas celebration sounds like an analog for our Thanksgiving on many levels --- and more like I wish ours was --- all the commercialism attendant to the holiday here depresses me at times. I mean -- why should gift giving be limited to a single day? (two if you include Birthdays)
12:44 am
GreyWoulf
Thanks for the compliment, sprite
Kirsten says part of my success at fatherhood is because I am still just a big kid at heart myself ;D
12:47 am
sprite
My sentiments exactly. Of course the influence of America is huge here, and every year the christmas celebration becomes more commercial and more and more people are focussed on presents and enormous dinners and such. I am still fighting back ;)
It is the time of the season... you know, it is Midwinter, all is turned inwards in nature, and it is in me too. I don't want exuberant celebrations. All I want is being silent inside, being grateful, feeding that deep dark place inside where the light will be born from again.
12:49 am
sprite
It takes a real adult to allow the child within to play still, for sure :)
Just read something like that: "A mature person is nothing more than a child with more experience at life."
12:51 am
GreyWoulf
I have always used the line -- 'The trick to being a successful adult is knowing when to act like a child'
12:51 am

I like that one too!
12:52 am

I still need 18 more words and I start beginning to wonder who is so certain they are there ;)

Well, coming straight forward with it would be giving away too much, I think ;)
I wonder... sometimes I drink so much tea I am told I probably have tea in stead of blood. Wouldn't that mean I have T..V....? Would be a lovely T8.

Merry Christmas everyone! I feel so blessed to share this time with you each and every night (more than you can ever know). I've had cancer all of the past year, and just went into remission 2 weeks ago. When the pain was too much I'd sit up and Babble to get my mind off of things. Now I'm officially addicted - like the lot of you :) Thank you for your help and for cheering me on. You were cheering for me in more ways than one. Bless you all and Merry Christmas!

So my Xmas gidt for Kristianna was a big hit! She loves the pup tent I bot her to use as a playhouse -- only bad side is she wants me to sit inside with her and my back just can't take the strain for more than a few mins :)
12:07 pm
GreyWoulf
harp -- s+ ne4 (the tide one)

When you're daughter gets a little older, you can give her "crafty" type scissors. The ones that cut irregular patterns, not just a straight line. I don't have kids of my own so I am spoiling other people's kids. This year I gave them scissors....Even the 14-year old boys like them!
12:10 pm
renfield
yup wolf pup - sounds like you're muzzy also too as well...
12:11 pm
GreyWoulf
ren -- best part I got it at Target -- tent, sleeping bag, flashlight, compass, and inflatable chair for $20!
Harp -- when she's older, sounds great
12:12 pm
renfield
good shopping - great imagination - and the possibilities of kristianna's adventures!
12:13 pm
GreyWoulf
Baby also got a bunch of books including 'Fox in Socks', 'Green Eggs and Ham', and 'Tikki Tikki Tembo' -- and I have already read them all to her!
And her uncle Turk sent her a gift card for Borders! :D
12:14 pm
harpjane
badgers tomorrow? What's the connection, GW?
12:17 pm
GreyWoulf

6:52 pm
pbr
renfield - thks for the clues...I still have one of the li4/4 left --it is one of the ones near the end of the li list -- (I have the li5 you gave me a clue to). I keep trying combinations and can't get it....

6:55 pm
renfield

I am in the suburbs of London -- later in the week we will travel by 'tube' to the city.
7:01 pm
Babs1
Thanks, Ren...helping me to remember and appreciate...we live about 30 minutes west of the city...so nice because it's backed to wilderness and hiking, but long trips to get errands done, etc.
7:03 pm
renfield
i would like to move to the austin or dallas/ ft worth area if i stay in tx - if not, it'll be long island ny.
7:04 pm
Babs1
why NY? are you planning on moving soon?
7:06 pm
renfield

7:06 pm
Babs1

7:07 pm
Babs1
ahh..well are you parents willing to move to Austin?
7:08 pm
Babs1
watching recording of Cold Play on Austin City Limits...haven't really llistend to them before...
7:09 pm
renfield
i agree w/ you babs1 - most of the people are very quick and very smart - i can't keep my attention on anything for that long - so i go in and out of it
my parents will not move anywhere!!!!
7:11 pm
Babs1
oh..I see. I guess you are where you are then! Ren..do you use any tools when working the puzzles?
7:11 pm
renfield
have you ever been to a live austin city limits
7:13 pm
Babs1
no, haven't been to ACL, but I'm sure it would be fun. Last year my husband won tickets to see the rehearsal of Saturday Night Live..that was really great! Amazing what they manage to pull off each week!
7:16 pm
renfield
most of the clues the others have posted and i have a list of words i use from the enable dictionary - i think some refer to a a2z web site and jera mentioned something about a word web site - i'll see if i can find it for you.
7:17 pm
Babs1
I have used the a2zwordfinder and morewords
7:19 pm
Babs1

7:25 pm
renfield
no babs1 - i haven't been imside a movie theater since i use to go to midnight rocky horror - my husband doens't care for johnny cash so if i see it it will be on dvd or one of the movie channels.,,
7:28 pm
renfield
ok - well slap my face - we plan on family tomorrow - put i see that my neighbors have their candle lit.... things get a little hectic around here..... one year i started pass over a few day early - looked at the wrong calendar...
7:33 pm
Babs1
It is confusing sometimes with the hoidays falling on different days in the conventional calendar! oh well, at least you get to celebrate!
7:33 pm
renfield
i go to temple when i can.... since mez left the temple we have moved more away from our holidays....there's so much to do in the family business and it seems everyone wants a piece of us... we hibernate and turn off our telephones...
7:34 pm
Babs1
Is your husband a main rabbi for a congregation or works in some othe capacity? Reform, conservative..?
7:34 pm
renfield
will you be doing anything? at least some latkes?
7:35 pm
Babs1
Well...I offered to make latkes for my daughter...unfortunately it's one of the few foods she's not crazy about...she's requested Haroses instead....
7:38 pm
renfield
we were at a small conservative temple - he broke both of his legs in an accident - and we decided there was more to life than having our life reviewed by the world... there's still a little to much rebellion in me to have people tell me what to do....
7:38 pm
Griffums
Hi there -
7:39 pm
renfield
hey griffs - hows your day?
what receipe do you use babs1?
7:40 pm
Babs1

7:40 pm
Griffums
It's been fine. Nice time with friends earlier, took a nap with Hunter. Decided to see whether the grid was doable - glad it's short today.
7:41 pm
Babs1
recipe? hmm...probably just a little of this and that...apples, nuts, raisins, wine...not sure if I feel like doing it though. Probably glance at an old Jewish cookbook for starters.
7:41 pm
renfield
not completely - he had to have a tendon graft and he cannot walk very far.
7:42 pm
renfield
it's short grif!!
7:42 pm
Babs1
wow ren! So sorry to hear that. was it a car accident? I was in a bad one a couple of years ago, and my body has never felt the same!
7:43 pm
renfield
i like haroset anytime fo the year - i make enough to share -
7:44 pm
Babs1
Interesting comments about the temple life..I always wondered about the pressures of being a rabbi!
7:46 pm
renfield
it was a freak accident at home. he was walking and tripped over some tree roots and layed in the back year for over 8 hours (until i came home)..
7:48 pm
Griffums
god, ren, that's so horrible. :((( I know two people who have taken falls from high places (both landed on their feet), and it's been devastating to their whole lives. I'm so sorry you both have gone through this.
7:48 pm
Babs1
ow!!!!!!!! What an ordeal! So sorry!
7:51 pm
renfield
thanks grif....it made us rethink our lives... we do very well and are now really quite happy...mez doesnt drive - and now rides a bicycle to do his errands... he's writing a book.... and we laugh now - together.... 8) i work outside the home and he has teken on the house and all that goes w/ it....
7:54 pm
renfield
smile - this is one of those good ending stories - i hate to do house work and love business - it you have ever seen benny and joon - i'm sam...mez is like joon when it comes to noise and confusion...the accident has effected his ability to deal w. the public.... so we have fun!!!
7:56 pm
Babs1
Ren..Sounds like you and mez have made a great adjustment! What kind of business is the family one? I hope you enjoy it!
8:02 pm
renfield

8:08 pm
renfield

8:12 pm
renfield

i have the one that is like part of a camera.
it's my last word.
anyone?
8:20 pm
Griffums
duh, tried to type my clue in the word box
lobstah, the 2nd syll rhymes with the 1st
8:22 pm
lalobstah
the second syll?
i don't know what that means. i don't think it's syllable, it's only 4 letters. i don't know what it would rhyme with. sorry.
8:24 pm
Griffums
The first syllable of the word is LI.
The second syllable is nearly identical.
8:25 pm
Griffums
(it's the only other consonant you can connect it to)
8:25 pm
lalobstah

Last year my mom thought she had gotten me the best gift of the 27 years of my life so far. she had gotten me a plastic mold of two white tigers heads.

Smeltz, I'm glad I ran into you on the log tonight. May I suggest a really good pair of earmuffs (that can disguise a good set of earplugs) and a very large sippy cup that can disguise a good drink?

RubyBlues

Ruby --
pe5/12 - plural of the pe4/5 (pe + opp of out)
pe5/12 - male reproductive organ
10:44 pm
JBsAnno
Ruby, there are 3 pe4's
one you burn in a fireplace instead of wood or coal;
one you write with (plural);
and one is like pain, only with one differing vowel.
Helps?
10:45 pm
JBsAnno
Ok (wow, GW, you're fast!) Ruby
7 li4's, what do you have so far?
10:45 pm
GreyWoulf
Smeltz -- take heart from the fact that you have done this successfully before --- that gives you a leg up on someone who hasn't --- now, next question -- how well do you like the kids you will have to spend time with?

And Smeltz -- you are a braver man than I -- I don't think I would be able to do your job --- I stress too easily when other people are involved :)
10:54 pm
JBsAnno
Smeltzi, it's always the "helping people" jobs that are the most stressful (and not very well rewarded monetarily wise), but often those types of jobs are the most satisfying.

Being Wiccan I don't celebrate Xmas per se, but since it is only a few days off from the solstice, it makes it simpler for the non Wiccan family that does observe the day

What is the significance of Boxing Day? We don't have it here in the US --- I have always been told that it is the day everything gets put away
As for icon shopping I just use Google images :)

I seem to recall that it is an English or British tradition... any one know the real story ??

Boxing day is the day that the cricket is on TV all day... (and the presents are put away)
11:56 pm
Blaze

There seems to be two theories on the origin of Boxing Day and why it is celebrated. The first is that centuries ago, on the day after Christmas, members of the merchant class would give boxes containing food and fruit, clothing, and/or money to trades people and servants. The gifts were an expression of gratitude much like when people receive bonuses, from their employer, for a job well done, today. These gifts, given in boxes, gave the holiday it's name, "Boxing Day".
The second thought is that Boxing Day comes from the tradition of opening the alms boxes placed in churches over the Christmas season. The contents thereof which were distributed amongst the poor, by the clergy, the day after Christmas.
11:58 pm
GreyWoulf
There --- it helps when you know what image you are hoping to find ;) narrows the search considerably :D
11:58 pm
mrpresident
Today, Boxing Day is spent with family and friends with lots of food and sharing of friendship and love. Government buildings and small businesses are closed but the malls are open and filled with people exchanging gifts or buying reduced priced Christmas gifts, cards, and decorations.
To keep the tradition of Boxing Day alive, many businesses, organizations, and families donate their time, services, and money to aid Food Banks and provide gifts for the poor, or they may choose to help an individual family that is in need.
