mrp, yes, it works. I've noted the url and I'm going to watch it for a couple of days.
1:23 am
mrpresident
angel... he can update it at the start of every puzzle... I will BEG him!
1:24 am
mab
I don't know, Sprite, these big grids intimidate me.
1:25 am
Angelsong
since anyone can conceivably access writely, I don't know that it would hurt anything to include it as an alternate for the resource page. I'm going to consider it.
1:25 am
mrpresident
OK, thanks
1:26 am
Angelsong
besides, merely posting the link is not forcing anyone to make use of it.
1:27 am
mrpresident
true true... it's not like I am posting the answers or anything LOL (he could, but I would kill him)
1:28 am
Angelsong
mrp, have you seen my resource page?
1:29 am
sprite
This early in the grid and already resource pages? LOL
1:30 am
mrpresident
Angel... yes! My husband showed it to me today! Very nice, very impressive! Full of very useful information'
1:30 am
Angelsong
sprite, haven't touched them yet, and I have only 127 words...
1:31 am
renfield
i only have 35 words...i keep watching this movie....
1:32 am
Angelsong
mrp, I'm making those pages for Babblers to have on their hard drives if they want them. I just finished one for GreyWoulf, and one for MamaBear. have several more to do.
1:33 am
mrpresident
oh Angel!!... !! May I have one please??
1:35 am

Hell to all
1:35 am

1:35 am
renfield
wow angel...you do cool stuff!!
1:36 am
sprite
Just for curiosity's sake: what's on such a page?
1:37 am
ToeSockMonkey
hey
1:37 am
mrpresident
Sprite... my OH has developed a babble tool that gets the stats (like in Bab Anon) in about 15 minutes of the puzzle being posted... he shares it with me and I am sharing it with you guys!
1:37 am
Angelsong
I did that page originally for myself, about three days after I began Babbling..just gathered all I could find into one handy page. then, I decided to see if anyone else wanted to see it so I posted it online.
1:38 am
Angelsong
sprite, go look. there's a link in BabAnon..general...announcing a new Babble resource.
1:38 am
sprite
I see, the 2nd letter list, thanks :)
And your page, Angelsong?
1:39 am
Angelsong
thanks, Renfield...I enjoy doing the page!
1:39 am
sprite
Oh, ok. Never go there, actually... but I guess I can, LOL.
1:40 am

1:51 am
sprite
So renfield... no more distractions, come play babble! LOL
1:53 am
renfield
yes sprite...i am....whew...
1:55 am
sprite
Why not 'moonies'?
1:55 am
Blaze
I agree.....
1:56 am
mrpresident
it is because it is an 'often offensive' term I guess!
1:57 am
Angelsong
or it may be because it is derived from a proper name....
1:57 am
Blaze
there have been more "often offensive" terms in here before and much much worse in my opinion
1:57 am
sprite
Or perhaps it needs to be capitalised. Well, whatever, it was a bummer that it wasn't valid ;)
1:58 am
Angelsong
everyone seems to find the resource page useful and attractive. I'm glad!
1:59 am
sprite
It's so very beautifully done, Angel! All the info together, even some tips on how to play, I love it. Also gives a very nice answer to the question: "What on earth IS it that you are playing every day???"
2:01 am
Angelsong
it should be a huge help to new players! it took me several days to really figure out how to use some of the resources...which gives me an idea for a brief update.
2:01 am
sprite
This is a 'bad' grid. First all those devilish Ds and now I find H8/55 and H8/50 as well.
2:02 am
Blaze
thank you sprite
2:03 am
Angelsong
there are a couple of de's that try to balance the grid a bit though, Sprite :)
2:04 am
sprite
They aren't doing a very good job, though :)
2:04 am
Angelsong
they are kinda puny :)
2:05 am
helenkeller
i was just reading back now, where is this resource page everyone is talking about?
2:06 am
Angelsong
helen, look in BabAnon...General...announcing a new Babble Resource. there is a link there for the resource page.
2:07 am
helenkeller
ty angel, i will look at it now
2:09 am
sprite
I have the feeling you will be very busy in times to come, Angel! ;)
2:09 am
Angelsong
I love it, so it isn't really a chore, sprite.
2:10 am
sprite
I think it is great.
2:12 am
Angelsong
sprite, what amuses me no end is this: I sent a link to my resource page to my daughter. Just a link. Now, she's a Babbler also, and I'm about to get her a Pro membership.
2:13 am
sprite
You're an ambassador, Angel ;)
But it is true, babble is so addicting and the community perhaps even more so. All people need is to be pointed in the right direction and they are hooked for life.
2:15 am
sprite
Hi sha. What a sweet icon.
2:16 am
Angelsong
sometimes I wish I could move the letters around in the grid....
2:17 am
sprite
Hahahaha... a 'shuffle' button.
2:18 am
helenkeller
wow angel, impressive, you sure did your homework, thx
2:18 am
Angelsong
Yes. exactly.
2:20 am
Angelsong
I got kinda tired of chasing all over for information, so I just pulled it together!
2:20 am
sprite
Beneath that button the following text:
"Use at your own risk. You have only 3 shuffles per day. Shuffling the grid may change the grid into a 600+ one, or a 30- one. Use with discretion."
2:21 am
Angelsong
LOL..."you have been warned..."
2:21 am
renfield
LOL sprite...if i did it i would get the 600+ and lose all the words i had collected
2:21 am
sprite
Would you like some more links to tools, Angel, or rather not?
2:23 am
Angelsong
yes, sprite...the more the better! can you e mail them to me? easier to deal with than in the chat.
2:23 am
renfield
angel - i have the enable dictionary in a note text if you want it.
2:23 am
Blaze
I have the enable on an html.....
2:24 am
Angelsong
sure, Ren...
2:25 am
Angelsong
wow...I love it that people want to contribute!!! makes it even better :)
2:25 am
sprite
I will, Angel, just found your email in your profile.
2:26 am
Angelsong
I already have a link to enable dictionary on the page. Are there others for enable?
2:28 am

2:44 am

2:45 am

Only that I just tried to enter Go7, though I already knew that the word is 'best' and this will never work...
2:46 am
sherb
morning folks :D ...wasn't expecting another biggie today... oh well...
2:46 am
sprite
Hi sherb! It's a nice one, just dig in :)
I love biggies on sundays.
2:47 am
Blaze
ah ha.... I was having a very blonde moment... almost time for bed I think
2:49 am
Blaze
that go 7/36 word is down right yummy
2:49 am

Blonde is: trying to enter something that for sure will not work. You seem perfectly bright to me ;)

renfield is still shaking from the last movie, lol.
2:57 am

wow sherb- you did get a good nite's sleep..... one day i'm going to sleep more than 4 hours....8)
2:57 am
renfield
LOL sprite...my feet are on the couch
2:59 am
sprite
I cannot believe it... more than halfway and not even one letter grayed out!
2:59 am
renfield
i have the z grayed out....
3:00 am
sherb
lol sprite... I'm eyeing that M in the middle... 57 words...
3:01 am
renfield
sherb - there are 66 M's....66.......
3:01 am
sprite
Yes, but 57 from the middle M. Terrible, isn't it? We've had grids with lesser totals!
3:02 am
sherb
and 30 N's... that's unusual...
3:09 am
sprite
Okay, Z, one T and one A grayed out... there is hope!
3:11 am
Angelsong
sprite, your links are up; I still don't have Renfield's e mail though...
3:12 am
sprite
Nice! Glad you could use them. :)
3:12 am
renfield
godh angel...i sent it some time ago - it is a rather large file.
3:13 am
renfield
that was gosh angel...i don;t say g-d w/out the space...
3:14 am
sprite
Interesting typo though, LOL
Is it freudian?
3:14 am
Angelsong
It may have gotten held up on a server, Ren. I'll watch for it. I especially like the way I can edit the page to include new content from time to time. makes the page even more useful.
3:15 am
sprite
But Angelsong, if we have the page on our hard drive, we will miss the updates. Shouldn't we just visit your page, or would that generate too much traffic?
3:16 am
renfield
it must have been sprite....for religous reasons, we spell g-d...g-d...so...oops....
3:17 am
sprite
(((renfield))) ;)
3:19 am
renfield
thanks sprite....8)
3:19 am
Angelsong
Sprite, you can easily edit your page to include the updates. it's just a matter of going to the online page, viewing the source code in your browser, copy and paste the new text.
3:21 am
sprite
Errrrrr....
'viewing the source page'... right.
Angel, you are talking to a complete nitwit on webdesign. Where do I find the source page?
3:21 am
Angelsong
ren...got your e mail. It was in my spam folder.
3:21 am
sprite
*make that source CODE
3:22 am
Angelsong
sprite, which browser do you use?
3:22 am
renfield
spam spam spam spam....
3:22 am
sprite
I have both firefox (for babble) and IE6.
3:23 am
Angelsong
when I send your page, there willl be a text file included that will have full instructions, sprite.
3:23 am

9:06 am
harpjane
Hello. Hows the puzzle today?
9:07 am
72 Temple Owl
what i have noticed is a lot of false starts...but the letters exist in other quadrants to actually make the word or the plural...
9:11 am
Angelsong
any clues for the T in the upper right corner? I've been stuck for a while.
9:19 am
sherb
back again, 242 still to find...
9:19 am
sherb
Angel - te4, sheep
9:21 am
amandacath
Is that what they are? te4 - rhymes with what you walk with
9:23 am
72 Temple Owl
hi harp sherb...head down working today! anhone have te5/12 yet?
9:24 am
sherb
hi Temple :D
te5/12 - a tithe
9:27 am
72 Temple Owl
*thinking...*
9:27 am
amandacath
Owl - it's a scottish tithe. Stick another letter in the word that follows it
9:30 am
sherb
some words just have me scratching my head to find a clue...
9:30 am
72 Temple Owl
*face very red*
9:31 am
Angelsong
still no luck with te4 - sheep
9:31 am
amandacath
why? Is that a word anyone should really know?
9:31 am
72 Temple Owl
angel: rhymes with what you walk with
9:32 am
amandacath
Angel it's a te4/6 - does that help?
9:32 am
sherb
no, but it comes up in Babble surprisingly often... combination of common letters, I suppose...
9:33 am
amandacath
Ah, I see. Another one to put on my list of "improbable combinations of letters that Babble recognises as words"
9:35 am
Angelsong
finally got the silly thing!
9:35 am
sherb
lol... I thought Babble would teach me some new words, but actually I rarely bother to look up the meanings...
9:36 am
sherb
and if na5/10 is a word, why isn't there an na4/4 singular?
9:37 am
sha
afternoon back again with 68 words 2 find
9:37 am

9:38 am
kole
could someone give a clue for ad6/21? that would rock.
9:38 am
amandacath
Sherb - that's another one that turns up again and again. If I remember correctly it's some sort of anatomical thing that doesn't have a singular ...?
9:38 am
goofball
st 8/55? I have all the other st's but can't see that one.
9:39 am
sherb
goofball - st8 is a dinosaur... ends with a mafia chief :D
9:39 am
72 Temple Owl
st 8 is a dinosaur
9:40 am
amandacath
Heehee! I was right. I looked it up, and there definitely is no singular. Or can one have only one buttock?
9:40 am
Angelsong
st8 is a type of prehistoric animal...think t. rex kin
9:40 am
72 Temple Owl
sherb: have u got to the n's yet? bad news!
9:41 am
amandacath
I'm on the n's right now - they really aren't very nice
9:42 am
sherb
amandacath - having only one would be a bit unfortunate... but I can imagine a circumstance where someone might want to refer to the right na4/4, or the left na4/4... :D
9:42 am
72 Temple Owl
think a n* and a wink...then stretch it
9:43 am
sherb
yup, I'm on the N's too... it's going to be a long day...
9:43 am
72 Temple Owl
i have managed all but two and it's time to go for now - help needed, anyone?

9:51 am

I've got all but the first 6/21, which I think you are missing as well. The one after that is another "improbable combination..." Dictionary says it's the plural of "negative response"
9:53 am
amandacath
Ok, took too long typing that last entry - the log got away from me. The ones after the 7 are "hangman's accoutrement" and it's past tense
9:55 am
amandacath
...and that gives you the last two G's as well, if you didn't have them already

9:57 am
JeeWhiz
Can you help me with the no7/40? Guess that was the one that I was missing in there.
9:58 am
amandacath
the 6/27 is, if I'm not mistaken, Yiddish. The 7 is more of the same, Jee. Anybody got the first 6/21 yet?
10:00 am

I'm only at 140, and I just can't be bothered with it today, it's far too large. I had other things to do with my Sunday.

my selfish pleasure in he8 but what are the other two he8s?
7:12 pm
Jacula
ExWren - Only do as much of the grid as it brings you pleasure to do. I (or rather my other half, mostly) tend to copy out (or print out) the grid first thing, after I've checked my e-mails. I then do it on paper as and when time permits throughout the day.
7:14 pm
Haz1558
he 8/50 is the person who takes selfish pleasure
he8/55 is the act of taking selfish pleasure
he8/50 has nothing to do with the above!

7:28 pm
Jacula
Temple - it's a te + an anagram of a short word for 'noise'. Failing that, try t + anagram of 'to eat'.
7:30 pm
Jacula
Temple - it's the Scottish word for 'tithe' - A tenth part of one's annual income contributed voluntarily or due as a tax, especially for the support of the clergy or church.
7:30 pm
Jacula
Haz - Have you gone? I do hope you didn't think the 'cow' clue was referring to you!:-(

7:38 pm

I assure everyone here that there is nothing 'velvet' about the Southern Comfort hammer, as I found out to my cost about 30 years ago (when I was 18) when I 'won' a Southern Comfort drinking competition against my then fiance.
7:39 pm
Jacula
Temple - No. Was just contemplating doing so to stupefy them enough to give them worming tablets later. LOL.
7:41 pm

Hi again, MM. That 'can I use your computer' thing keeps happening to me,too, with my daughter and her course work. I mean, you can't really say, 'No! I'm Babbling!' can you?? She has a new laptop almost primed up now so, hopefully, it's only my printer she's going to want to hog for a while. (She's an art student.)

MM - I can understand you not wanting an 11-year-old to have a net-enabled computer in her room, though you can set up parental blocks. I don't like computers in bedrooms because of the electronic fields created by them (and by other electrial equipment). However, since both my kids are adults now, I can't really stop them.

Jacula-I have to pill my cat twice a day, every day, and a couple of years ago found that the vets use a pill "gun" (they never tell you about it) and got one for myself and life has become much easier-and my fingers fars less scarred. It is like a long plastic straw with a rubber tip which holds the pill, and a plunger which pushes a puff of air which pops the pill into the cat's throat. Not that they can't gag, tongue their meds or otherwise escape, but it helps.
8:11 pm
Jacula
Eva - Thank you so much for that information. I will ask my vet about it.

Eva - Years ago, I had to give my dog (a Jack Russell x Sheltie) 2 tablets a day. But he was soft as a brush and I could flip him over on his bag between my legs (NO RUDE COMMENTS, PLEASE, ANYONE!) and shove the tablet in the gap at the back of his jaw and then stroke his Adam's apple until he had to swallow. I did try the 'just hide it in a bit of his meat' thing first. That never worked. The bowl would be shiny clean with the tablet sitting there in the middle of it, winking at me like the 'zing star' in that old MacClean's toothpaste advert.

jacula-
How To Give Your Cat A Pill
1. Grasp cat firmly in your arms. Cradle its head on your elbow, and pop the pill in its mouth.
2. Retrieve cat from top of lamp & pill from under sofa.
3. Follow the same procedure as in 1, but hold cat's front paws down with left hand & back paws down with elbow of right arm. Poke pill into its mouth with right forefinger.
4. Retrieve cat from under bed. Get new pill from bottle (resist impulse to get new cat).
8:26 pm
72 Temple Owl
heck - i typed that no less than three times this afternoon...but then again, at one point my page said there was one minute left...
Thanks JACS! DONE!
8:27 pm
Eva
5. Again proceed as in 1 except when you have cat firmly cradled, sit on edge of chair, fold your torso over cat, bring your right hand over your left elbow, open cats mouth by lifting the upper jaw & pop pill in quickly! Since your head is down by your knees, you won't be able to see what you are doing. That's just as well.
6. Leave cat hanging on drapes. Leave pill in your hair.
7. If you're a woman, have a good cry. If you're a man, have a good cry.
8. Now pull yourself together. Retrieve cat & pill. Assuming position 1, say sternly, "Who's the boss here anyway?" Open cats mouth, take pill & ..... oops!
9. Crawl to the linen. Drag back a large beach towel. Spread the towel on the floor.
10. Retrieve cat from kitchen counter & pill from potted plant.
11. Spread cat on towel near one end with its head over long edge.
8:27 pm
Jacula
Eva - LOL. I'm sure I've seen a 21-point 'How To' bulletin for that before now.:-)
8:27 pm
Eva
12. Flatten cats front & back legs over its stomach (resist impluse to flatten cat).
13. Roll cat in towel. Work fast; time and tabbies wait for no man - or woman!
14. Resume position 1. Rotate left hand to cat's head. Press its mouth at the jaw hinges like opening the petals of a snapdragon.
15. Drop it into cats mouth & poke gently. Voila! its done.
16. Vacuum up loose fur (the cat's). Apply bandages to wounds (yours).
17. Take two aspirins & lie down.

only 23 more to go -- so's, st's and some of the t's !!!!
8:41 pm
Jacula
Eva - I've just thought of a quicker way to give a cat a pill:
1. Hire industrial vacuum cleaner.
2. Buy some big plastic drinking straws.
3. Take purchases home.
4. Plug in machine.
5. Make sure cat (or cats) are in house.
6. Close all points of egress.
7. Creep into room where cat is sleeping and close door behind you.
8. Place upholstery nozzle on end of hose and position it over sleeping cat's neck.
9. Place pill on one end of a wide straw and inhale.
10. Hold breath (unless you have overestimated straw to pill size are are now choking on pill).
11. Switch machine on.
12. As cat awakes, opens mouth wide to yowl, blow pill from straw down cat's throat.
13. Switch off machine.
14. Leave room rapidly as very pissed off cat falls to floor.
15. Clean up cat sick from carpet or sofa.
16. Go back to whichever number in this list you now need to.
17. Start again.
8:46 pm
Eva
LOL!!! Not sure I understand, not having eer used on, the role of the upholstery nozzle. Does it hold the cat in place? And the first step for any procedure involving making a cat do something it doesn't want to do (take pills, go to vet, etc) is to meditate, or take a tranq, so as not to betray any unsual anxiety because if you do the cats will dematerialize until it is too late.
8:49 pm
Jacula
Eva - The upholstery nozzle is the smaller version of the carpet nozzle. (Fits the back of a cat's nect quite nicely, I would imagine.) It's for vacuuming your sofas and armchairs, bedding etc.
8:51 pm
Jacula
Eva - if I must meditate, get drugged up or drunk before I give my cats a pill, how will I see to aim? I think I'd rather get the cats spaced out, drugged or drunk! LOL. That way, they get the pills and I don't get injured.
8:51 pm
Eva
My eyes keep closing so I guess I'll hang this one up. Good luck tomorrow Jac!
8:53 pm
Eva
But then you have to pill them in order to pill them?
The other thing is that it's hard to aim while laughing hard.
