the term pop comes from a type of bottle that was used here widdly just before and at the turn of the last century they were called "codd stoppers" and there was a marble in the neck of the bottle and was held in place at the top of the neck by the carbonation and a rubber seal.to ipen it they used to use a pencil or a stick and hit the marble and it make a very identifiable "pop" sound.hence the name
