Their first line of defense with reflux is to add the bulkiness of the pectin to help them keep down the food... in her case it was the worst thing, but we did not know that right off the bat. So, sometimes with these types of things you have to use trial and error.

He had been looking like an "old man hamster" for a while (thinning hair) but he was so energentic I was still very surprised. They say two years is the life expectancy, so I guess he mostly hit old age.

Hamsters *can* hibernate whenever, but it is supposed to be related to temperature. They come from the desert originally and don't like things to be cold. They can hibernate when it gets colder, and the only real sign is a little heartbeat and slow breathing. I would have given quite a bit to hear a little heartbeat or breathing.

Jai - how did you find about the cancer in the rat? I always wonder if they get vet visits or what. I also have heard that they are prone to tumours/cancer, maybe because of all the stesting over the years?

She grew a tumor on her shoulder, and we have a great vet clinic with one vet who specialized in the exotic animals- he was eager to try, so we gave it a go, and it paid off.

Haha, Emma was very jealous even though he was here first. She would lunge at him occasionally while we had him out but then she got in trouble so she learned to glare at him from afar. There are even some shots of them being friendly.
