It is very confusing, unnecessarily so in this teacher's opinion, to have both metric and "customary" measures taught in schools. I would think that picking just one in the early grades and really learning that and then learning the other in middle school when algebra is taught (conversions are a natural thing to put in at that point) would be more logical. In my increasingly humble opinion...
