a video camera can be a very useful tool. record the boy acting out, talking back, mouthing off and misbehaving. cut it together like a highlight real and present it to mil as her work. this is what she has created. let her know that you love her but that she is causing harm to her beloved/spoiled grandkid, causing hurt to you and creating a situation that damages the relationship of her son and his wife. if that makes no impression on her let her know that you are prepared to cut her off and stand firm. oh, and tell her son to grow a set of nuts (if you'll pardon my swahili) and do what's right.

My mother-in-law tells a funny story about a Mother's Day that she was going to be unable to visit her Mother, so she sent flowers. At the last minute, she was able to visit after all. When she got to her Mom's house, she found a bouquet of dead flowers on the dining room table. (They had been delivered the day before). Her Mom thought that telling her about the sad condition of the flowers would hurt her feelings.
