2 tablespoons fat from the ham
1/2 cup coffee
1/4 cup water
2 tablespoons butter
1 beef bouillon cube (optional)
Grits, recipe follows
Directions
Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the fat from the ham and render. When the fat is rendered, add the ham steaks and pan-fry until golden brown on both sides. Remove the ham from the pan and set aside on a plate and keep warm. To the pan, add the coffee and water and stir with a wooden spoon, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Add the butter and the bouillon cube and stir to incorporate. Serve the gravy over the ham steaks on grits.


Grits:
2 cups water
1 1/4 cups milk
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup quick cooking grits, not instant (suggested: Quaker)
1/2 cup butter
In a small pot, bring water, milk, and salt to a boil. Slowly stir grits into boiling mixture. Stir continuously and thoroughly until grits are well mixed. Let the pot return to a boil, cover pot with a lid, lower the temperature, and cook for approximately 30 minutes stirring occasionally. Add more water if necessary.

Grits are done when they have the consistency of smooth cream of wheat. Stir in half the butter and serve with remaining butter divided equally on top of each portion, or serve with fruit or with a savory meal.

Yield: 4 servings

That's so nice. I love when my kids can connect with their cousins. I have 2 nieces here now, one came to live here (she's 23) and one is on a study program for the year (18). They are both coming together next weekend to visit. I am twisting arms so all my married kids will be here too. It's a little sensitive with the in-laws since it's a holiday though.

I am done, so now I will ai 4/5 you w/a story of clues to help those who are st 7/44 by the grid.Was ad5/14ed by my parents when I was two years old.I was so ji4/11 from malnutrition, that the agency expedi4/5d the ad5/14ion process so my parents could start nursing me back to health. They worked with an agent who took the le4/5 and guided them through the whole process. Agent sa 4/5 to my parents,"I do hope you realize how costly it will be to take care of your daughter". The agent didn't om4/5 anything about what their ad5/14ion would enta4/4. However, parents were po5/12ive that they wanted to do this & so they did.The da4/5 I came to the U.S. was August 4, 1973.
