It won't help because you NEED to cough. Something is triggering the cough reflex and I suspect pneumonia based on your story. To sleep you can take a single ingredient--generic Benadryl. The multi-ingredient products include things that don't work--decongestant, expectorant and cough suppressant.

I do them once a year and don't really have the recipe in my head, but I don't think the proportions sound right there... too much egg, not enough onion. I used to eat these as fast as my mother could make them. No self-discipline when it comes to latkes... and they're scrumptious when crispy and served with sour cream. Some prefer applesauce. I like both!

And yes homemade is always best! I'd try one egg and see how it works. And remember to squeeze out as much water from the potatoes as you can. Otherwise you have to keep adding flour (or matzoh meal) cause the batter gets watery. Grate the potatoes by hand if possible--my grandmother swore a bit of blood improved the flavor :-)

When Beloved and I were in Devon last summer we saw a cottage in a small village with the most brilliant garden and run for their Siamese cats. It was to prevent theft of the cats.
