Thai cuisine has a green and a red curry. The green is spicy the red is milder. Indian has yellow, brown, and red ones. Patak's brand makes a good jarred Indian red curry paste that, at least here, most supermarkets carry. Thai Kitchen brand makes good jarred Thai red and green curries.

Someone, last year, recommended Connie Willis, who writes a fantasty series, which is not something I generally like - time travel in this case. But her characters go back to medieval England, and to London during WWII, which does interest me. Good books.

No, we stayed in London, most of the time. A short trip to Wales, then my Dad had leave, so we came back; and then to his sister in northern England, but back again soon after. My Mum was pregnant, and wanted to be near her Mother, I guess.

Were a not-very-large group, we've been in existence for about 28 years, and I think we do as much chatting as we do quilting, at our meeting at any rate, but we make a lot of quilts for local charities - Children's Hospital, and a shelter for at-risk teens and young people.

well, we have a local one, but they're... well, I can't afford the level of involvement they get into. I'm too poor to get my quilts quilted by ladies with machines, and they don't do it the old-fashioned way, if you know what I mean. They have a favorite local store, owned by members, and the material is astronomically high-priced.

I don't quilt - I enjoy making the blocks, or a baby quilt, but the hand quilting doesn't interest me, and I'm a dud at machine quilting. So I tell them, I'll do the patchwork, someone else can quilt it. A couple of our members have big quilting machines - I don't have the space even if I had the money for one.

How lovely. We have one member who does art quilts. A condition of membership is to make two babyquilts for Hollywood Childrens Hospital, needn't be complicated, just a bind and back a panel without batting for new babies. And now we're committed to making 70 twinsized quilts for the shelter.

One of our projects is working with women on Skid Row - no longer living on the streets, but in SRO housing, and a couple of them made and donated quilts.

I made a black velvet dress "from scratch" for a woman a couple of winters ago, she brought a tiny dress, about a size 4, that she wanted me to reproduce for her. She was much bigger. But it went well, she loved it, but then proceeded to gain a lot of weight, so has never worn it out anywhere. Oh, well!
