hi, folks! Dee, I've been debating installing a door at the top of the stairs (to our upstairs), and we've had a big debate going on about which way it should open. I think if it opens onto the stairs the knob will be too high for anyone going up to comfortably reach, then have to back down for door clearance... sounds sort of like your situation?

it's an old house, and we have just one heat source, which amazingly enough does a great job. No ducts or vents to close, you know. One of those old Warm Morning heaters, with a stovepipe - hard to believe it works so well. The heat goes right up the stairs, which was okay when they were little, but now they complain.

one of DH's surgeries (on ZDec. 18th) was arthroscopic repair of 2 torn meniscus in the right knee. We'd known he'd had 1 torn one on the outside; but when they got in there he'd had 2 torn. After the first week or so, it was good; but the ice packs are necessary and then don't push it too much!
