our "kitten" is now 9 months old and lord of the manor he is super alpha male and our other 2 older cats are not happy about it,so what we do is leash him and he instantly goes from stealty alpha jungle predator to a dangle toy for the other cats to chase around the house and try to catch the leash;))

I would suggest lightly marking the red edges with a permanent marker to be able to accurately monitor increased readness. Also, checking for other things like temperature (especially in the evening) and if there is any increased pain.
