on a bit of a roller coaster Neil - went to Cyprus to visit daughter and family for 8 days, got back to find mother had undergone her hip replacement surgery without telling anybody, was at home, not doing very well and needed help. The reason he got out in the first place was because I had to call the police about neighbors AGAIN and was peeking out to look to see if the police were there. Dodger never tries to get out like that so it wasn't even in my mind. The police tried to help me find him but no luck. They stopped back by about an hour later and tried to help but I was afraid they're scare him out from under the car and then I wouldn't know where he was....which is exactly what happened the THIRD time they came but I was able to approach him slowly and calmly and get hold of him....he was surely exhausted by then...I know I was. It was cold enough out there at 45 degrees.

Wow, did I have an awful night. One of my cats scooted out the door and ran so I spent over 4 hours looking for him and worrying. Finally found him under a car in our parking lot but it took nearly 2 hours to get him to come out. The police were actually here and helped. He's home now. I'm a wreck.

The police were actually here three times---twice for me and the cat! We have such wonderful police here in Phoenix....very professional and great attitudes. They were so very kind and understanding. The reason he got out in the first place was because I had to call the police AGAIN about partying neighbors who woke me at midnight. Hi, everyone! I'm exhausted tonight and don't know why I'm not already asleep. Was up all night last night tracking down and trying to catch one of my cats who decided to scoot out the door and run. It took the better part of 5 hours to get him back and the police helped. I was especially worried about him because he has a seizure disorder. This was not the time to give up drinking!

bugs, you can confirm if I am on the right track about one thing: it seems to me that one of the biggest stumbling blocks for students who struggle isn't really the concepts, it is remembering the terminology. So I have started a "vocabulary corner" for the kids, with the key terms and their definitions up on the wall.

Finally, one of the things I have noticed as a tutor and as a teacher is that students really don't care to take the time to transfer what they know if a mathematical phrase looks "different" they either panic and revolt against doing it, or just stop and stare. Any ideas other than modeling it, talking them off the ceiling and reassuring them that it's okay to get confused because it gets easier with practice???
