Was watching a documentary on an island off Tasmania - previously a whaling station - and they had brought in rabbits for fresh meat - they had destroyed nearly all the vegetation on the island with burrowing. that oo** word - I have heard and read it over many years, and it seems to be a sort of filler word in Scots speech - maybe now archaic - sort of like our "uh" or "ah" but (at least in print) more focused - emphasized what follows, breaks up a sentence for pacing of speech - but I can't recall trying to look it up before today!
