hmmm, at work, every time we open a new packet of test strips, we have to re-calibrate. and then we do it again once/week to make sure calibration is holding.

the other issue could be the puncture site. if her hands aren't clean, or if the nurse/doctor has not allowed the alcohol from swab to evaporate fully, you will get a false high.

when I was studying physical therapy, ages back, I had to... what is the word... work for a while in one of those nursing homes without pay, to see how things went and to help where I could. I cried so much. Got an A for the report... couldn't bear to see how people were treated there. And not just because of laziness. Also because of being understaffed and overworked.

there is a power surge when you turn on electrical things, the surge that causes old light bulbs to blow when you switch them on, that is bad for computers, but leaving them on all the time causes heat problems, good for them to thoroughly cool down once a day.

yes, but if it is a cheap one they frequently don't work well, and the others are not that expensive, 25-40 bucks the last time I looked. they come with a warranty that pays you if anything plunged into it fails due to power problems, very good at steadying out power flow and surge protection.

Sorry - I must react to what was being discussed when I came on....Happily(!) with life threatening cancer the patient quickly come to terms with what will probably happen to them. And usually the medications &/or chemo numbs not only the pain but also their emotions. Is it easier for the patient? - no. You still know what is going on and know you may be leaving your family. Family and friends react in all kinds of ways - I had people unable to see me and others horrified - but really, they are going to get through the loss if that comes and for them there is a tomorrow. Your niece sounds very stoic Peach - I hope she wins her fight.

Mab, yes, Bagheera is "fine" Turns out he was in a cat fight and his wound was only a puncture wound. We did however find out that his kidney disease has progressed. Need to get a urine sample in to see better where we stand.
