I went the Alanon route. Finally decided that AA is enabling these people. Everyone must make their own decisions but that program is for the people who drink not the ones who are harmed. Alcoholics are drunks with money.

It helped me to come to terms with the reality of someone who loved to drink and used his "sickness" as an excuse. We are talking about an intelligent man who was a VP in a national company. He learned all the words and used them to manipulate the people trying to help him. Drinking is a deal breaker. He hit me one time and he ended up on the floor when I hit him with the fireplace poker and called the police. It was the last time I have ever talked to him.
