Ruru, you should see this patio now. It's my little tropical oasis. Enclosed on 3 sides with a roof and I'm upstairs. I have alternated palm trees and lattice panels all the way across the open part so I can't see my neighbors as well now but the top is still open so I can see my beautiful sunsets. I have solar lights in the trees as well as light stakes which automatically come on at dusk and shut off when the sun starts shining in the morning. At night it looks like the lights are floating in air. Making me SOOO happy!

Nef, I so agree with your comment on Hospice. I worked in HH/Hospice for 15 years and that was what I saw. Our society puts too much into this "valiant fight with cancer". There are times when fighting is just not uplifting to quality or quantity of life. Families, pateints and health care providers are too afraid to really discuss options. And few really realize of what benefit Hospice can be.

Thankfully, our eldest did join Coast Guard instead of heading right into college (he'd have flunked out). My mom had a hissy with her grandson not going to college, now she realizes what an appropriate choice. He learned responsibility. I finally told Frank's Aunt Jean that it was "Palliative Care" so that she would agree to the comfort measures of Hospice. (she had end-stage heart failure and died of it; but she got comfort from the Hospice/Palliative Care for 2 months at the end.

sorry popped out for a few. Nef, much of the public think hospice is only for dying not for making the remainder of your life better. We had a patient at the hospital I was working at. She was 70 some years old 6 or so months into a stage 4 lung cancer diagnosis, which she did not want to do anything about and wasn't in hospice yet. She did go with hospice during that stay, but she was already 6 or so months closer to death.

Back in the early 70's when I was a county health nurse, we had to assess our patients every 2 months to continue Medicare/Medical assistance coverage. If we wrote our reports so that the patient was declining, they'd be kicked off our files "because they belonged in a nursing home" or if we made them sound too healthy, they'd be kicked off food that too! We always had to make the reports so that the patient was doing better in this area but doing worse in a different area!
