I definitely "shop around" for doctors. When I had cancer, I consulted with 2 experts in Boston, even though I was in Miami, and then "shopped" my protocol (designed in Boston) until I found a Miami doctor who would administer the correct and individualized drugs.

We are fortunate here in that new (within last 5 years) regulations have basically killed of what mills existed. No longer can we buy a cat or dog at a pet store; instead they have adoption days highlighting animals from our local shelter. if you, however, wish a specific breed you are then referred to a licensed and reputable breeder who has all the correct permits and is inspected on a regular basis by the animal control officers.

I do the shots myself and that saves a lot. I also found an amazing flea product for dogs. It is Bayer Seresto Flea and Tick Collar, Large Dog http://www.amazon.com/Bayer-Seresto-Fl\nea-Collar-Large/product-reviews/B00B8C\nG602. I take the dogs camping each year and the fleas made me crazy. I tried everything, but this collar goes into their bloodstream like the drops and really lasts 8mths. and it cost $50.
