We have one interesting wetland preserve here. We rescued it from a developer who wanted to put in a golf course. The great thing is that it contains, of all things, a rare species of turtle. The kicker is that the entire thing is not open to the public--ever.

Matthew has said he will come to school with me tomorrow, so glad he wants to help. I need to wash the boards, rearrange desks and computers, and put up some bulletin boards. Found some snowman wrapping paper to use as backer -- think it will be fun for the kids. I want to showcase some of their math work on the doors to the cabinets. Set theory for multiplication makes for some amazing graphics!

Oh! and BIG NEWS (sort of) I decided to join the orchestra that Mother and Grant play in. I think I can do some percussion, and Grant will teach me how to play the trombone and violin so I can help out some. Have to get the violin fixed, though, two of the keys slip so it doesn't keep tune.

I played board games with my kids a lot when they were little so they could learn to take turns and because we didn't have a lot of money. Young ones today just entertain themselves on machines. When the older boy, his girlfriend and I started playing Scrabble and sounding like we were having fun (because it was) the little ones came out and got involved too. It was the best night.

I started out well but faded. Little Charlie was being the scorekeeper for us and he kept putting his hand on my shoulder to comfort me when he saw his old Grandmas was loosing. Uncle and Zoe did not get that treatment when they were loosing. It was hilarious.

Problem was that they didn't tell me they were coming for more than the day so there weren't enough beds for them all. I suppose I was supposed to put them up in a hotel but I had no money left for that. The kids all wanted to sleep in the van but Mum wouldn't let them and she wasn't happy out there hereself.

that's rough -- we won't be overnight guest ready until next summer, I think, now that we have all the boxes from the storage locker on top of the ones from the fire. We have an air mattress, but Tom's office and mine are pretty cluttered, too much for guests!

We had Tom's parents here one night this last year, but they weren't really comfortable. Next time they come, we WILL put them up in a hotel, and maybe they will stay a little longer. I like having them visit, but they tend to go see all their other kids rather than us. And when I have time off to travel, they aren't at home! LOL

We have 2 double beds, a twin mattress and two couches. The couples were offered the double beds, and the 3 kids (one is 19 so they would have been safe) all wanted to sleep in the van in the driveway when I offered it. I didn't know I wasn't supposed to offer it so she just told the 3 kids to take over the office which was fine with me. I thought she had talked to her kids and worked out something that worked. Who knew.

This morning when she got up scowled and snarled at everyone until we were all sure she was really mad, (imagine a spoiled 4 year old who would be told to go settle down for a while and come back when she was civil), she gathered up her poor husband and kids and left in a huff.
