Tomorrow night at 6pm a group of us are snowshoeing in the woods then having dinner together.

We used to get minus 40 up north when we would go ice fishing on lake Nippissing. You would stand out in the darkness on the ice, with the dark wind cutting through your layers of clothing like a knife, and hear the ice moaning and groaning in pain, and jump in surprise at the rifle-shot sound of the pressure cracks zig-zaging their way just beyond your sight.

We used to ride out on a snowmobile or a Bombadeer-- basically a bus on skis, and i clearly remember the drive laying down boards acrossy these wide pressure cracks. You could see the open water below. he would back the buss off and get a good run at it and we would ail over the pressure crack with a rattling of boards and the poor engine screaming at us:)... I was insane now that I think of it...

Now we have steep pointy roofs except a flat portion over the kitchen. It is the sunroom that is about to fall apart that is of concern. I would be happy to just let it go and have the insurance get us a new one, but our generator is out there and we are afraid that the roof may collapse and break through the sliding glass doors leading to that area...then we would be sunk.

that little mother raised both litters. fortunately we were able to find homes for all the babies before they matured to breeding age.

do any of the native american snakes travel in mated pairs? over here the red-bellied black, and the eastern browns do. if you go bush, you take a double-barrel gun with you. if you shoot one, you have to have a barrel ready for the other.

ours are harmless to humans, but anything else they are fatal. i have one in our bedroom with legs nearly 3" long, stretched out. it almost looks like a wind-up toy.

speaking of ra6 things in the news about aussieland - I heard the lady who was in jail because nobody believed dingos stole hr baby got released because someone found suspicious dingos... does the stuff about your country that makes news in the states make you cringe?

gosh, jes, that was years ago. you are talking about the chamberlains. it was all a very grave miscarriage of justice as far as i am concerned.

i thought the release was recent, but she'd been in jail for several years?

yes she had. and several of us have been fighting for her release. she wrote a book about it. it was very sad.

her case was quashed in 1988, she has since remarried, lived in seattle and now moved back to ozland with her husband.
