Scrabs, I tired for years to please the aunt who raised me; I'd go visit her and end up crying all the way back home (she lived 6 1/2 hours north of us). I had to learn that *I* couldn't please her or anyone else. If I let people make me feel guilty; they had a tendancy to walk all over me. I had to do what was right for me & my family. Once I figured that out; things went better because she stopped trying to manipulate me

I am a big fan of assisted living facilities and nursing homes as options that save the family. They are not all bad. My 88 year old uncle was put in one several years ago, and he's done really well there. My grandmother hated going to a nursing home, but she managed to pick up a boyfriend and have a little fling while she was in.

I am a planner and problem solver, so I do like to manage things. I also reduce things to their simplest state, so I know the 2 choices now. I cannot spend every free moment taking care of my mother and I cannot assume responsibility for my sibs.
