Hi all and so happy you're having a good time in BC, Ru :)
1:17 am
Lizlin
Also that you're enjoying Ru's visit, Flosey :)
1:18 am
flosey
hi Liz, we've been having a ball
1:18 am
Lizlin
Babble meets are great fun - the people I've met are so lovely - wish I'd had the time to meet all you BC people 2 years ago.
1:19 am
flosey
were you not in our area at all, Liz? or tight schedule?
1:20 am
Lizlin
Very tight schedule - an organised tour with Scenic and then 7 day Inside Passage cruise.
1:20 am
Lizlin
Probably has less free time in Vancouver / Victoria than in some of our other stops.
1:21 am
Lizlin
I love the Vancouver area - my dad worked there for over 2 years in the 70s
1:22 am

mattygroves
Howdy! How's tricks?
5:19 am
sprite
hi matty :) All good here, except the ole body protesting a bit. How are you?
5:19 am
mattygroves
Not bad - at the out-laws (Jeff's folks) - sweet people but can be a little wearing so have retreated briefly to Babble and drink a cuppa :)
5:20 am
mattygroves
You don't by any chance have the OT6?
5:20 am
sprite
ah good move! A little bit of me-time goes a long way.
5:20 am
sprite
um no, not yet, just entered my first few words. Will help you look.
5:20 am
mattygroves
Sorry - jumping the gun :)
5:21 am
mattygroves
I hadn't realised you said hello as soon as you started :)
5:21 am
mattygroves
It's apparently an OT6/18 - I'd swear I've tried every possible combination
5:21 am
sprite
*grins* It is the first thing I do
5:22 am
sprite
got it. Now to think how to clue it.
5:22 am
mattygroves
I shall await your brain with bated breath ;)
5:23 am
mattygroves
Got it!
5:23 am
mattygroves
Found it with my monkey fingers
5:23 am
sprite
let me see... a magical brew, drop first and last letter. Then add the first 2 letters of another word for ocean.
5:24 am
sprite
lol! Good for you. And saves you from having to figure out my clumsy clue.
5:25 am
mattygroves
Let's see how' I'd clue it - OT + the operating system for Apple devices + vowel?
5:25 am
mattygroves
Not that clear, and a bit geeky... ;)
5:25 am
sprite
hahahaha would have worked for me
5:26 am
mattygroves
I shall go into the kitchen in a minute, have a smoke (Margaret - crazy (in a good way) Irish mother-out-law smokes in there) - the upside is I can smoke sitting down (I don't smoke in my own house); the downside is I end up smoking too much ;(
5:27 am
sprite
enjoy her company... and the smoke :)
5:31 am
sukee
Good morning.
5:32 am
sprite
hi sukee :)
5:32 am
sprite
how are you doing, sukee? Are the muscles behaving a little?
5:33 am
sukee
Not bad actually, the warmer weather makes everything better.
5:33 am
sukee
And, we finally had a thunderstorm with really heavy rain.
5:33 am
sukee
There was actually flooding on my street.
5:33 am
crosshair
Good morning, my friends:)
5:33 am
sprite
ah good. On both counts. Warmer weather is helpful, and a bit less tension in the air as well, I bet.
5:34 am
sprite
hiya crossy *hugs* How are you and your lovely Elegant?
5:34 am
sukee
Supposed to rain all day today too, but we really needed it.
5:34 am
crosshair
((sprite)) We are both doing fine, and how are you today?
5:35 am
crosshair
howdy, sukee
5:35 am
sprite
all well here, just back and hips hurting. Otherwise all fine :)
5:36 am
sukee
I feel bad I didn't ask how you were sprite. Hope the pain passes soon.
5:36 am
crosshair
This year, with both the wife and I, it is our knees that ache almost constantly:(
5:37 am
sprite
dear sukee, don't feel bad. It's all good :)
5:37 am
sprite
ugh crossy, that is not pleasant. Such important joints, the knees.
5:38 am
sukee
A friend told me to mix water and ginger powder and rub it on sore joints. It seems to work for a little while. I put it on my knees and hips and the thumb that is always sore.
5:38 am
crosshair
That is why we have embraced hiking the way we have. We are both at the "Use them, or lose them" stage, especially me with my bursitis and the extra pounds that I am carrying.
5:39 am
sukee
I'm trying a challenge to walk more, I have a pedometer I'm wearing for 3 weeks. Walking is definitely a good way.
5:39 am
sprite
are you taking glucasamine chondroitin?
5:39 am
crosshair
Abraham Lincoln once said "the best doctor is your left leg and your right leg" :)
5:40 am
crosshair
Yes, we take glucosamine
5:40 am
sprite
walking is one of the very best ways to excercise.
5:40 am
sprite
good. Thought you would, but never hurts to check.
5:40 am
sukee
Does it work? I keep seeing the commercials with Joe Carter :)
5:41 am
sprite
oh yes, it works. I notice as soon as I forget taking them. In a few days, the pain is much worse.
5:41 am
crosshair
Glucosamine is a long, slow process, but It does help, somewhat, however, at the end of the day, knee deterioration is what it is.
5:42 am
sukee
I should ask my doctor about it, as long as it doesn't come in horse sized pills I could take it.
5:42 am
crosshair
No, they are not that big
5:42 am
sprite
it is in rather big pills here. But you can cut them up if you want, they are not time released.
5:42 am
crosshair
about 375 mg in size
5:43 am
crosshair
size of a standard tylenol capsule ours are
5:44 am
crosshair
Not cheap though. best to buy in bulk
5:44 am
sukee
I have weird knees, they never developed fully. I always knew I had small knee caps but turns out there is a name for that.
5:45 am
sprite
never heard of that before. Sounds unpleasant, sukee :(
5:46 am
sukee
Hasn't really bothered me although kneeling has always been uncomfortable for me, even before my mobility issues. They are very easily moved.
5:47 am
sprite
I have never been able to kneel either.
5:49 am
crosshair
We hope we can halt the degeneration, but we shall see;(
5:49 am
sukee
It's funny, had all these issues my whole life but never diagnosed until I was in my 50s. Made me fail grade 9 gym and the year because I couldn't do what the others could, gym teachers assumed laziness. Thank goodness you can't fail because of gym anymore. Same as I got criticized for poor handwriting as a child and not being able to tie my shoe laces as quickly as others. It all adds up. Anyway, enough of my story :)
5:50 am
sprite
I am sorry you were given such a hard time about things you could not help, sukee. *hug*
5:50 am
sukee
A friend got a knee replacement last year, she is very happy.
5:50 am
crosshair
Come on up sukee. We are hitting an amazing part of the Bruce trail today:)
5:51 am
mattygroves
Can anyone tell me anything about the 4 Es in the fourth column?
5:51 am
sukee
Although it took a long time for her to heal.
5:51 am
sukee
Sorry Matty, don't have those yet.
5:51 am
sprite
yeah, knees are difficult joints to replace, it takes long to heal. Hips are easier.
5:52 am
sprite
matty, I have one. The plural letter E.
5:52 am
sprite
plural letter S I mean
5:52 am
Uneaixoise
and you're in the grid today! :-)
5:52 am

5:53 am

5:53 am

5:54 am

6:15 am

6:16 am
crosshair
ty, sp6
6:17 am
crosshair
Actually, since it is your babble name, I feel it can be posted in the chog with impunity.
6:17 am

6:18 am

Found the 8, ty.
6:18 am

6:20 am

When growing up, my beloved had a next door neighbour who used to grow a second garden just for the kids on the street. he would plant snap peas, and carrots and romaine lettuce and green beans. The kids were allowed to 'free-range" lol
7:32 am
grannyrose
what a lovely man!! i hope the kids appreciated it.
7:33 am
crosshair
My wife says she spent many a sunny Sunday afternoon sitting cross-legged in the rows contentedly eating baby carrots and peas.

In exchange, they had to weed.
7:36 am
grannyrose
fair enough. and those little hands and fingers would be very good at weeding.
7:36 am
crosshair
Was no panic though. If you saw a weed, just pull it and throw it on the pile at the end of the garden on your way out
7:37 am
grannyrose
so the kids took some ownership of the maintenance as well. good lesson.
7:37 am

My mum when making tea for us when we were young would not only make it strong, but it was generally hot enough so you had to let it sit for 5 minutes:)

We have lost a lot of our "Home-brand " stores over the years, Woolworth's, Consumers Distributing, and when they obliterated all our Zellers stores to try target stores, it was another big mistake. Now taget has flopped here and they have closed all those as well.

That will need to be a VERY long string, crossy, I live on the 14th floor.
10:57 am
JBsAnno
mmm, bacon (turkey bacon) bits.
10:57 am
crosshair
There ought to be a law against turkey bacon:)
10:58 am
JBsAnno
Not if you don't eat pork! not Jewish, but have dietary restrictions.
10:58 am
JBsAnno
Just means more for you, crossy dear!
10:58 am
MollyL
I agree. Turkey bacon is hideous. I'd rather not eat bacon that eat turkey bacon.
11:00 am
crosshair
I once tried making a bacon-bacon burger; I ground up a pound of raw hickory-maple bacon, then added bits of onion, some fine-ground cheddar cracker crumbs, bit of egg and cooked up the patties. the I added strips of crispy bacon on top with a bacon ranch sauce. was nice, but not something I would do often:)
11:00 am
JBsAnno
There are a couple of brands that work for me. It's better than no bacon at all. I was baconless for several years, and I'm glad I found an acceptable substitute, whew!
11:01 am
JBsAnno
Crossy, you are a brave man.
11:01 am
crosshair
I am glad you found a pleasing substitute

I go where others fear to tread:)
11:02 am

You should write a book - Climbing Mount Bacon.
11:02 am
crosshair
and bacon-bacon burgers cook up really, really small:(
11:02 am
crosshair
make them twice the size of tour desired finished burger
11:02 am
JBsAnno
I figured the shrinkage on those would make them about the size of hushpuppies!
11:03 am

and not too thick or they do not cook well:/
11:04 am

I cannot climb mount bacon... arteries are too clogged;)

I am not going to leave the undertaker a pretty body. I am going to fall into that pine box all battered and bruised saying" What a wild ride!!"
11:06 am

Haha, crossy, and with that, I have to go. Sadly, the pantry does not organize itself.
Good seeing you, TO! BBLater, all, happy Babbling!

a persistent cough can also be related to acid reflux...

Sinus infection with PND?
11:30 am
72 Temple Owl
did not mention that. who know?allergy season. will try benadryl tonight and see if it clears
11:35 am
aebmusica
dear Temple.....I took Benedryl once because I thought I had an allergic reaction(sniffles & sneezing ) to something. However I had the beginning of a Sinus infection. The Benadryl did dry up the sniffles & sneezing,,,,but it also pushed everything back into the sinus cavity and head.I though I had a 500 lb head. It made my Sinus infection worse and it made me very dizzy. Try doing this at your own risk.
11:37 am
72 Temple Owl
our doctors no longer give antibiotics for sinus infections. you have to ride it out. no exceptions.
11:38 am
Scrabbler
Antihistamines have a drying effect. Nasal saline spray helps with irrigating mucous. And a nasal steroid spray is much more effective than antihistamines.
11:38 am
Scrabbler
Most sinus infections are viral = common cold. If there is a runny nose and cough for more than 2 weeks then antibiotics can be considered.
11:41 am
72 Temple Owl
the policy is, since the course is not altered by prescribing, they do no longer prescribe for sinus even if secondary infection sets in.
11:42 am
72 Temple Owl
three weeks healing is the same.
11:44 am
Scrabbler
I am happy to know that docs avoid inappropriate use of antibiotics. The world, mostly US docs, are behaving this way.
11:45 am
Erda
Back in Europe, I kept company with a lot of doctors, and found out the following fact: During WWII, all allergies stopped. Just stopped. Mind was busy with other things: bombs, bullets, etc. If you are wondering about surviving, you won't wonder about hayfever. (Yes, that one, too...) So, direct your mind away from allergies. Don't dwell on them.
11:45 am

2:07 pm
Deeha
interesting Erda together with the very healthy - limited-diet. But that doesn't explain why children are born with allergies. I know a little boy who is the most allergic child in the SE of England. Altho I do blame a lot of it on the excessive cleaning we do -. Like a handwash that you don't need to touch to make it give you soap -'in case the previous person had germs on their hands??? You are using soap to KILL germs for goodness sake.!!!
2:09 pm
MollyL
Erda's comment was in regards to people who obsess about their health. Not about people with true health problems.
2:10 pm
Deeha
I thought she was talking about positive thinking to help allergies
2:12 pm
Deeha
We had practically starvation rations during the war but we were ate our healthiest
2:16 pm
MollyL
Quoting Erda..."If you are wondering about surviving, you won't wonder about hayfever."
It's about what your mind is focused on.
2:18 pm
Marc Freeman
sp6 the first one,please?
2:20 pm
jesdraggon
Actually, Deeha, soap dispensers have been some of the highest bacterial content surfaces tested in some hospitals, right up there with male doctors' neck ties.
2:20 pm
jesdraggon
Most soap is not directly anti-bacterial, and those that are have their own related issues.
2:21 pm
MollyL
sp+ second vowel + last three of what the sun does in the east in the morning
2:21 pm
jesdraggon
Proper handwashing removes bacteria more by physical rubbing than any action of the soap - it's just there to break down the oils that help the bacteria stick.
2:22 pm
Marc Freeman
thanks Molly great clue
2:22 pm
jesdraggon
also, howdy everybody :)
2:24 pm
MollyL
I think that is what Deeha was saying. A hand wash that you don't need to touch...etc...germs from the previous user.
2:25 pm
jesdraggon
perhaps I mis read - I though she she was dismayed that this was a concern.
2:31 pm
MollyL
Also, people who are obsessed with that "anti-bacterial" hand scrub amuse me.
2:32 pm
MollyL
I don't think Erda was dismayed about anything. Her point was that if your mind is on other things, you are not focusing on health problems all the time.
2:51 pm
MollyL
Maybe we should switch the conversation to shower curtains.

I shall miss the lass who is to be buried on Wednesday. We had been friends for 60 years. The one that died most recently was my mother's 'toy boy' of 85. My mum was 15 years older than him and he hated the term. He was a real sweetie. My kids regarded him as their proxy grandad.

Tie an inflatable on the back of the cruise ship and we will all sneak in. Easy!
5:08 pm

Hi all. Just trying to get a few words on this grid. The weekend has been beautiful and we enjoyed newly picked local strawberries.
9:29 pm
mkg
hi all. i can use clues for the 8s please. dont have either one.
9:30 pm
stidgmere
the pi 8, 50 is the suffix meaning the most possible. Uses the pi 4, 6 as its root word.
9:31 pm
mkg
pi for possible?
9:32 pm
mkg
ty but i dont have the pi's. i have three pi 4s, none close to that in meaning.
9:32 pm
stidgmere
pi for type of jungle helmet.
9:32 pm
mkg
ok got the pi. i guess i did have the four.
9:33 pm
stidgmere
I don't have the other 8 word, sorry mkg.
9:33 pm
mkg
dont have the six. hmmm. ty stid.
9:34 pm
stidgmere
I'm kind of hit or miss on this grid. Just trying to finish the 4 letter words and finding my brain power not rising to the occasion.
9:34 pm
mkg
got it stid. i try to get half way. thats all.
9:35 pm
mkg
i just got over that half way point.
9:35 pm
stidgmere
I'm needing 2 more words for completing the 4 letters.
9:38 pm
stidgmere
Got the last 4 letter word. nbt, nbs.
9:44 pm
stidmama
go Mother go!!!!
9:45 pm
Bugsaw
hello stid ladies
9:46 pm
Bugsaw
I saw Jilli this weekend. She is as beautiful as ever
9:47 pm
stidmama
hey bugs! :-D
9:47 pm
stidmama
Mid-July good for you? The week after the 4th or the week after?
9:48 pm
Bugsaw
you must be very close to finishing now stid. Will you be at the same school in the same grade?
9:48 pm
stidmama
I need some time to get things cleaned and cleared... LOL or you can show up in the evening of June 12 and help me unpack the car from school! LOL
9:48 pm
stidmama
And yes! Same everything next year, only better knowledge of the grade/content and kids! :-D
9:49 pm
stidmama
Glad you saw Jill -- looks like she has been doing a lot of work on her house lately.
9:49 pm
Bugsaw
and all that worrying about not being good with elementary kids!
9:52 pm
Bugsaw
I just made a note on my calendar for those 2 weeks. We will have to discuss specifics by email. I am looking forward to the summer and taking a break from the routine of the school year.
9:53 pm
Bugsaw
I will send you a picture Jill, me and Saanichcat.
9:54 pm
stidmama
yes, me too! Mostly just glad I can relax with no worries about the new year. I have a lot to do over the summer, but this will be purposeful for a change, and I will be able to focus on one thing at a time instead of all content areas all the time.
9:55 pm
stidmama
Oh, you saw her too! How is she? I haven't heard from her in ages since we are rarely in babble at the same time.
9:58 pm
Pinikula
*peeking in for a moment* hiya sisters!
9:59 pm
Bugsaw
Turns out she and I worked at the same bookstore back in the early 70s and we had the best time getting to know each other again. At that time our lives were on completely different tracks but now we feel like old friends. It was so much fun to meet her.
10:00 pm
Bugsaw
Pini! so good you popped in.
10:01 pm
Bugsaw
I see you are a grandmother again. Congratulations.
10:01 pm
Pinikula
Thanks...he's a keeper!
10:01 pm
Bugsaw
What is his name?
10:02 pm
Pinikula
Always nice to see my bunk-buddies! :)
10:02 pm
Pinikula
"Lincoln James"
10:02 pm
Bugsaw
Very classy!
10:03 pm
Bugsaw
There are not too many famous Bubbas in the world
10:03 pm
Pinikula
His parents think they'll call him "L J" for short...
10:04 pm
Pinikula
...his middle name is for my dad -- known as "Jim" -- who insists that, although he thinks they should reverse the names, he should be called "Li'l Jim"! LOL
10:05 pm
Pinikula
Someone else suggested they nickname him "Abe" -- that didn't go over well.
10:05 pm
Bugsaw
It will be interesting to see if it sticks. I thought my parents should have called my little sister Jim but they didn't go for it. My brother called his boy Jim and he was always the only one his age.
10:06 pm
Bugsaw
I can see how Abe wouldn't go over well. Maybe that is why they are considering LJ
10:07 pm
Pinikula
I remember my dad's older sisters calling him "Jimmy Boy" ... he only cringed when it was used by non-siblings
10:08 pm
Pinikula
Oh, and "Linc" is out of the question!
10:08 pm
Bugsaw
There are far too many young James', but Jim has class too. Still, Lincoln is a very classy name
10:09 pm
Pinikula
I thnk it's rather classy and not so far out there that it'll work.
10:11 pm
Bugsaw
I agree. Nice choice of name. Not common but not odd.
10:11 pm
Pinikula
So, other than that, how are y'all doin'!?
10:15 pm
Bugsaw
I am well. Met with Jillibus, Flosey, Saanichcat and ruru this weekend. Haven't laughed like that in a long time
10:15 pm
Bugsaw
Mr Bugs was my only bunkmate though.
10:16 pm
Pinikula
OMG...I can only imagine what a fine time was had with such a group! (Glad to hear Mr Bugs joined in, too!)
10:16 pm
Bugsaw
He said I snored horribly!
10:16 pm
Bugsaw
Glad you weren't there to be bothered
10:16 pm
Pinikula
oh no!!!
10:17 pm
Pinikula
Oh, I'm sure he was just messin' with you...I don't recall such a noise!
10:17 pm
rururocks
...glad i missed the snoring too...
10:18 pm
Pinikula
oh, hiya ru!
10:18 pm
Pinikula
(on that note...I'll be right bad - have to wash the dye out) brb
10:18 pm
rururocks
Hi pini.
10:18 pm
Bugsaw
hi ruru. When Pini and I were bunkmate years ago there were 4 of us in one room. Lots of noises going on.
10:18 pm
rururocks
It was a lot of fun. Great people
10:19 pm
Bugsaw
get you get my email?
10:19 pm
rururocks
Not yet
10:19 pm
Bugsaw
ok. I sent the pics
10:19 pm
rururocks
Nope. Nothing there?
10:20 pm
rururocks
Ugh hopefully none of me
10:20 pm
Bugsaw
searching...............
10:23 pm
Pinikula
...and back
10:23 pm
Pinikula
(timing is everything when the timer goes off)
10:23 pm
stidmama
sorry, wandered off...
10:24 pm
Pinikula
hiya li'l sis
10:25 pm
stidmama
you saw ruru too??? and flosey?? HEY GRANDMA CAMO-PINI!!!!!!!!
10:25 pm
Pinikula
* giggle *
10:26 pm
Pinikula
Yeah, stid, I'm rather jealous of the get-together, too! :)
10:27 pm
Bugsaw
Not meaning to cause any jealousy. It could not get any bigger because it was at Jilli's house and we were afraid of overwhelming her. Plus you guys are at school
10:27 pm
stidmama
we are watching an old Dr Who... it has been a strange weekend, not what I planned at all, but not bad. Now a week of intense work and push-push-push and then a week of filling out memory books and sharing a few final thoughts and they are off to the next grade. Not me though, I didn't get promoted, so I have to repeat the whole thing again next year.
10:28 pm
Bugsaw
;ucky you stid. The more you teach the same grade, the more resources you will accumulate.
10:28 pm
Pinikula
I'd say you're on your way, stid! And I'm not so sure being promoted is all it's put out to be! LOL
10:29 pm
Bugsaw
I took pictures on my iPad and tried to send them directly. Now I have tried to send them to my computer and we will see if that works better.
10:30 pm
stidmama
Oh, and I bought a (very basic beginner) drum set yesterday so I have a pedal bass drum for the concert on Wednesday... keep me in your thoughts that I don't "solo" where I am not supposed to!
10:30 pm
Pinikula
No worries, stid, you're gonna ROCK it!!! :)
10:30 pm
Uneaixoise
if possible, please share pix with us ALL! :-)
10:31 pm
stidmama
Maybe... I know all the pieces pretty well except one, and that one if I have to will just pull back on the snare drum syncopation. ;-)
10:31 pm
stidmama
bon soir, chere une!
10:32 pm
stidmama
bugs, you can probably "message" me ipad to ipad if you like?
10:32 pm
Pinikula
<-- has an ipad, too! :)
10:32 pm
Bugsaw
Except for the onesI took of ruru and Saanichcat who prefer to remain mysterious, I will do my best Une.
10:32 pm
Pinikula
(not sure if that was a subtle hint or not) :-)
10:34 pm
Uneaixoise
tx bugs and howdy stiddy :-)
10:34 pm
Uneaixoise
and yes, if necessary, you can cut out Ruru, International Man of Mystery
10:34 pm
Bugsaw
I am trying ladies. They won't even come to the computer 6 inches away right now.
10:35 pm
rururocks
..mysterious...
10:36 pm
rururocks
International?
10:36 pm
Bugsaw
I go see my computre whiz student tomorrow so maybe he can help me figure out what I am not doing this time that I always did before .
10:36 pm
Uneaixoise
quoting Austin Powers :-)
10:37 pm
Bugsaw
ooh. I met an international man of mystery this weekend and totally missed the whole significance!
10:37 pm
harpjane
well I just drowned a woodtick. That makes four woodticks and a rainbow for today.
10:38 pm
Pinikula
that's "mysterious" is, Bugs!
10:40 pm
rururocks
Mr bugs is more mysterious than i am :D
10:41 pm
Bugsaw
He is just quiet. He had a much better time than he thought he would.
10:41 pm
Bugsaw
Shyness can be quite a handicap
10:42 pm
rururocks
Great. He seemed really happy last night
10:46 pm
Pinikula
it's always good to hear when quiet people end up having a good time!
10:46 pm
rururocks
Yeah i am shy too
10:46 pm
Pinikula
* blink * huh?
10:52 pm
Pinikula
ok ok ok ... I take it back; I believe you! :)
10:54 pm
Bugsaw
ok stidmama, I just messaged you a picture of 3 of us. Did you get it? if so, please don't publish it because it has Saanichcat in it.
10:55 pm
stidmama
That is a great picture of Flosey!!! Love the smile on Saanich's face. She is such a beautiful person.
10:55 pm
stidmama
and You have done something to your hair, methinks... ;-)
10:56 pm
stidmama
Or maybe it's just that your color-coordination with Jill made the whole world glow...
10:58 pm
Bugsaw
No, propably the hairdresser. Flosey is beautiful. There is a better pic of Saanich where she is not hiding but I have to check with her if she minds you seeing it since she has met you before and speaks of you fondly.
10:59 pm
stidmama
okay Just closed the cold frames, and Tom brought me lovely strawberries and choclit chip cookies.
11:00 pm
stidmama
