Hi Sprite and hugs - hope you're still here.
3:34 am
sprite
hiya Liz :) Yeah, almost done though. Plugging in the last few. How was your day?
3:35 am
Lizlin
I finished quite a while ago but thought I might catch you. My day was mostly fine - not too happy with the python that was sun bathing in our back yard :(
3:35 am
sprite
ugh! That is a nasty surprise. What did you do?
3:35 am
Lizlin
Feeling guilty too - didn't catch Rose yesterday to give her good wishes for today.
3:36 am
Lizlin
Hubby turned the hose on it and shooed it off. It ended up in the neighbour's overgrown garden (not our intent). We went next door to tell them but they weren't there.
3:36 am
sprite
aw sweetie, please don't feel guilty. Rose knows you are thinking of her. Not catching her in babble simply happens.
3:36 am
Lizlin
His job tomorrow is to replace any screening with holes in it!
3:37 am
sprite
rather scary. Sounds like your hubby has his job cut out for him, lol.
3:37 am
Lizlin
I do feel guilty. I've been busy with all the religious stuff and haven't been too chatty. Still that's nearly all over now.
3:37 am
Lizlin
He was fine with it. It was quite small - he says - about a metre. But that's a metre too long for me!
3:38 am
sprite
a whole metre of snake? Would be too long for me too!
3:38 am
Lizlin
I know that they're around but as long as I don't know about them I can cope! Still, at least I've never seen a venomous one here.
3:38 am
sprite
please don't worry about it, Liz. Religious stuff is important. I know that rose understands. And it is not as if she isn't in your heart and prayers.
3:40 am
Lizlin
Well please let her know that we're thinking of her. How does this nerve thingy work? Not the infusion and equally importantly, how are you this morning?
3:40 am
rururocks
Maybe the python was a present?
3:41 am
sprite
I believe they inject something into the nerve. I am fine. Feeling upbeat, though a bit tired. All normal :)
3:41 am
rururocks
Did it have a boa on it?
3:41 am
Lizlin
A present? If it was, it was an unwanted present. I hate snakes. They totally freak me out!
3:41 am

3:45 am

Yes on both counts but hubby is an Aussie!
3:45 am
sprite
yeah, that would do it, grin.
3:45 am
Lizlin
Mostly I love living here though.
3:46 am
sprite
you usually sound very happy there, Liz. You can freely nag about the nasties, you have lots of credit ;)
3:47 am
Lizlin
Appreciate that. I can't really complain - sun, sand and whales.
3:47 am
Lizlin
Koalas and kangas too :)
3:47 am
sprite
awesome :) The only whale I ever see here is the one in the mirror, lol... and no sea to push it back into.
3:48 am
Lizlin
But the "whale" is getting smaller and in any case that's a warped view!
3:48 am
Lizlin
Nice grid, I thought.
3:49 am
sprite
*giggles* I know, was just kidding. I feel happy with myself, even before the weight loss. But I have to admit, being slimmer feels a lot nicer than I thought it would.
3:49 am
sprite
yeah, very nice grid. Enough tricky ones to be interesting and enough series to be smooth.
3:49 am
Lizlin
And it'll just get better. You'll feel so good not carrying weight around.
3:49 am
Lizlin
OK - time for me to go. Happy to have caught you. Have a lovely day. Hugs.
3:50 am

6:05 am

Yarp. I've not found it yet. I saw a great thing on Facebook - it seems, in Canada, a dead raccoon was spotted on the road. Someone contacted local services to remove it via twitter. It didn't get removed for over 12 hours. In the meantime, local people created a little candlelit shrine for it, complete with a photograph, collection box and handmade cards
6:05 am

Yes, that was in Toronto. They have a great sense of humour.

I'm glad he seemed settled. As for you.... It really will be a big challenge to be alone in the house. But, in time, I think you will actually enjoy the peace and quiet. And it's wonderful that you have such good frinds to do the driving etc.
7:06 am

His daughter was horrified and had all kinds of stupid suggestions for keeping him at home. I finally told here that he didn't want her to come, even before his recent falls.
7:07 am

For sure. Be sure that you keep all your friends on hand. Times like this... you need all the support you can get.
7:08 am
rubyfoo
And his daughter is useless, anyway
7:08 am
Soodle
I was just going to ask did his daughter know. And yes... I would have expected tons of 'suggestions' from her berth , 6000 miles away. She is a waste of space.
7:10 am

I think she liked telling her friends that she was "off to France" from time to time, but her e-mail revealed her true (bi**y) self.

Sorry Ruby, I have to sign off now - going to visit my own Dad in HIS NH! I'll drop you a mail this evening. Enjoy this afternoon. Revel in your freedom. Go and have coffee (or stronger) with your friend. Try to embrace the positives of this situation!! ((((Hugs))))

Trifioso
no seriously - there are some STUPID questions
9:03 am
Biltong
ty, crossy, can't believe I missed that, lol
9:03 am
Trifioso
example: "miss c, can you help me find a book? I want to read "the diary of anne frank" but I don't know who wrote it."
9:03 am
crosshair
lol, trif. Had a room full of 18 -25 year old kids. half the firls were pregnant and one 18 year old boy stands up and asks "what does the word contraceptive mean?" and I said 'well, i guess that explains things.." lol
9:04 am

and another one cannot tell time on a clock with hands on it. 'quarter and half past, or quarter to the hour mean nothing to her. had to show her on a digital clock. each student is a new experience:)
9:10 am

Another one was having problems with a book. told me that "holding all those pages so they do not move around is a real pain," and could he load it as a pdf file and in-text cite the pdf..
9:11 am
crosshair
Caught him bending the spine back on itself and using a large binder clip to hold it in place every time he turned a page :( poor book was ruined :(
9:25 am

finally NBT and NBS 88 words in
9:26 am
Trifioso
well done crossy! I have slowed down considerably...
9:28 am
Trifioso
I am doing something sort of outside my comfort zone today - I have a friend who greatly enjoys meeting with a medium. She has arranged for the medium to come to her home, and do readings for a couple of hours. Tertiare and I are going. I hope to hear something from my friend who passed away last month. It's not my usual thing, to be sure, but I am keeping an open mind.
9:29 am
Trifioso
perhaps she will offer some insight into the "valentine thing" as well - who knows?
9:30 am
Trifioso
at the very least, it will be nice to spend some time with my friend
9:32 am
crosshair
Sounds interesting. not my thing, but as you say, you get to visit a friend.
9:33 am
Trifioso
steven's funeral is today, but it's in St Augustine, Florida, so too far for me to attend....oh, how I will be thinking of him!
9:34 am
Trifioso
there is some talk of having a service up here as well, but it won't be until summer, I should think
9:34 am
Trifioso
I cannot tell you how many times I have picked up my phone to call or text him, before I remember.....
9:35 am
Trifioso
but I just shrug, and say to the universe what I wanted to tell steven, either out loud, or just in my head, and I hope somehow he hears me....and that brings its own sort of comfort.
9:35 am
crosshair
it is a process. there is no time limit on grief or missing someone.
9:35 am
Trifioso
see: grief bacon
9:37 am
crosshair
And as long as you walk this Earth, and remember him , he is immortal. So, think of the good times, and he is there beside you--always. My own mum lives though me.
9:37 am
Trifioso
steven was fluent in german, so he would have been the first to find grief bacon hilarious
9:37 am
crosshair
Then think of this and smile:)
9:38 am
Trifioso
and, not to air ALL my dirty laundry...a certain party and I are going to meet tomorrow afternoon, to see if there is any hope.
9:38 am
crosshair
the depart have many lessons to teach.
9:38 am
MollyL
You don't have to "believe in it" Trif. Just think of it as "another perspective" on things and take from it what works for you.
9:38 am
Trifioso
thanks molly
9:38 am
crosshair
matters, not. You want to talk about it here, then talk. there is no wrong in it.
9:39 am
Trifioso
I don't know all there is to know about everything, after all. perhaps this woman is completely valid. wouldn't that be nice? I would LOVE to hear that steven arrived safely, and is delighted to be reunited with his beloved mother.
9:39 am
crosshair
I will not belittle you for talking of what is in your mind today, trif :) sometimes a person needs a ear that will listen ;)
9:39 am
Trifioso
I don't know what to hope for tomorrow. I don't know. I just don't.
9:40 am
MollyL
Trif, I don't know what happened between you and the heart man, and I'm not asking for details. I will just say that you should be sure to keep your boundaries in place and don't settle for anything less than the best. Because the best is what you deserve.
9:40 am
bichon
grief bacon, that is sweet
9:41 am
Trifioso
thanks molly. I know in my head where my boundaries are. I do! I just hope that I can stand firm in them when he is standing there with his oh so lovely eyes and smooth voice.....
9:42 am
Trifioso
and you know what is the weirdest thing of all molly? For the first time in my adult life I agree with that thought - I DO deserve the best! Finally - after 50 years - I am no longer willing to beat dead horses
9:42 am
MollyL
Good for you Trif, and stand firm. Always stand firm.
9:42 am
Trifioso
its very easy to stand firm via text. in person? not so much
9:43 am

hi ruby, been following your previous posts. Burt is in a nursing home?
9:45 am
Trifioso
hello ruby
9:47 am
MollyL
Again, I don't know what happened between you two. But if he's asking you to settle for less than you deserve then all I can say is that a good looking asshole is still an asshole.
9:47 am
Trifioso
im clear on that one, molly! he's not an asshole. But he has MASSIVE work to do. If he's not willing to own that, and work on it? Im done.
9:47 am
Trifioso
sounds harsh, but I am not putting up with it.
9:48 am
crosshair
((ruby)) wb :)
9:49 am
MollyL
That is not harsh. It's asking for what you deserve.
9:50 am
Trifioso
Im more comfortable thinking of it as not accepting what I do not deserve
9:50 am
rururocks
Guys with massive work to do often feel they are perfectly fine
9:51 am
Trifioso
I fear that is indeed true, ruru, but hoping that since he has had a big, honking helping of what life looks like without me, he will consider his options carefully.
9:51 am
rubyfoo
{{bichon}} he's in a beautiful place, not at all what I expected.
9:52 am
rubyfoo
The problems are that it's only for one or two months and he doesn't understand why he's there, so that makes it very sad.
9:52 am
Trifioso
ruby, I have been thinking of you, and wishing you peace during this transition. Im sorry your dear one doesn't understand it, though....
9:52 am

Why for such a short time.

My mother was very comfortable in assisted living. Maybe he will grow accustomed to it

It is reserved for urgent cases by the "Conseeil General". The system here is very good and, hopefully, I'll be able to find another place after as finding specific Alzheimer's places is difficult

are you taking care of yourself? getting rest? eating?
9:55 am
rubyfoo
I'm eating as much as I can and trying to rest but I was a little bit nervous last night, alone in this big house.
9:55 am
rubyfoo
I'll get over it!
9:55 am
Trifioso
yes, that would be an adjustment.
9:55 am
Trifioso
do you know your neighbors well?
9:56 am
rubyfoo
Not that he could ever have helped me if I fell....
9:56 am
rubyfoo
Yes, they've been wonderful
9:56 am
Trifioso
do you have one of those falling alarm thingies?
9:56 am
Trifioso
do they have those in france?
9:57 am
rubyfoo
I think so, but I've been thinking about that all day
9:57 am
rururocks
Orders a clapper and lifelock for ruby
9:57 am
rubyfoo
Will find out when my friend comes in a few minutes to take me to the store
9:57 am
Trifioso
they are a very good idea!
9:58 am
rururocks
And a first alert necklace
9:58 am
Trifioso
my moms best friend lives in a condo in new York city, and is neither elderly or frail ,but ordered one for herself when she found out a neighbor in the building fell in her bathtub, and was in it for an entire weekend! she was cold, alone, frightened...the worst!
9:59 am
rubyfoo
That's my fear, too, as I'm old and pretty frail
10:03 am
rubyfoo
I've gotten a request to have Rufie cover somebody's bitch in the next village. What do you think? He's pretty famous, I guess
10:03 am
Trifioso
booty call!
10:04 am
rubyfoo
One of my friends said I was putting him on the "trottoir" (sending him to the curb to be a pro
10:05 am
MollyL
See, it's so funny. You can say "cover someone's bitch" about dogs, but if a man said that, he would get crucified by any woman in the room.
10:05 am
rubyfoo
I couldn't think of an easier way to say it; I hope nobody is offended
10:15 am
MollyL
We are all adults here Ruby. If someone is offended by that, they need to go find a prim and proper chat forum.
10:15 am
Trifioso
I think Rufie is lucky - if memory serves....
10:15 am
rubyfoo
bichon, do you know anything about stud fees?
10:16 am
rubyfoo
I find the idea very funny. He has already tried with his "fixed" sister and she growled and bit him (gently) on the nose
10:16 am
rubyfoo
She loves him, but not THAT way
10:17 am
MollyL
I wonder if that would work for women who are not in the mood. Growl and bit him on the nose.
: P
10:17 am
Trifioso
lolololol
10:17 am

I've been more than Bit

10:29 am
rururocks
how are things for Doren? Staying home this weekend?
10:30 am
Dorens
Almost. At least no big trips or plans. a quiet weekend with only dinner at friends' tonight. I have a book or two to read, so hoping to get a lot of that done. Figured I'd get a head start on the grid and it is working quite quickly so far. How about you? house hunting?
10:35 am
rururocks
I've been looking.. most things are priced too high or don't have what I want. I'm still searching. I am thinking about switching realtors though
10:36 am
rururocks
I saw a house yesterday that was Lowered from $849 to $795 and it would need at least $150-$200K worth of work to fix all the issues.
10:37 am
rururocks
I saw another house I liked but it was across the street from a large apartment complex.. and I know that means loud music and parties etc (most of the time in Napa).. and I want peace and quiet
10:37 am

Judi
Saturday greetings, Babblers!
11:15 am
rururocks
hi judi
11:16 am
Judi
Is that a pic of your pup's litter, Ru?
11:16 am
rururocks
yes.. Dylan is in the middle
11:17 am
Judi
Adorable! When do you pick him up?
11:17 am
rururocks
he's grown up a bit since then.. that's an old picture
11:18 am
rururocks
I was trying to be warm and fuzzy :D
11:18 am
Judi
Mission accomplished.
11:19 am
MollyL
I don't think there is any picking up to do. I think that is Ru's dog when he was a puppy.
11:19 am
Judi
Oh! I thought that was the new pup.
11:20 am
rururocks
new one is going to be a rescue and an older dog
11:21 am
rururocks
and it will be a Labrador Ret.
11:21 am
Judi
Oy. Okay. I'm on track now. Puppies just make me all gooey and brainless.
11:23 am
MollyL
I get that way about babies.
11:23 am
rururocks
I get that way about.... oh never mind
11:23 am
Judi
So debilitating, yet so enjoyable.
11:25 am
Judi
Just had our dishwasher repaired. Only $489. Just shoot me.
11:26 am
MollyL
Yes Ru, that is why the Great Creator decided to let women have the babies. Otherwise, there would have been no propagation of the species.
11:26 am
MollyL
See that is where I draw the line with repairs. You could have gotten a brand new dishwasher for that or a little more.
11:28 am
Judi
Was a no win situation. Ours is tiled in at the bottom. So, removal would have been a major pain and even more expensive. So, we bit the bullet and had the computer components replaced. Damn thing is only five years old. I swear they build in self-destruct codes on those things.
11:29 am
rururocks
they are only built to last 4-5 years. we were constantly buying new dishwashers at our old house
11:29 am
Speedie
it is called 'planned obsolescence' Judi :)
11:30 am
mattygroves
Should I be able to spot the OO word easily?
11:30 am
Judi
So, I quizzed the repair guy about which dishwasher/appliance brand was the best. He said if you buy a REAL Bosche from a Bosche dealer, you'll be better off.
11:30 am
Judi
Matty - yes. It's a past-tense.
11:31 am
mattygroves
You're right.
11:31 am
mattygroves
I should have seen it sooner
11:31 am
rururocks
stalker is in the grid?
11:31 am
mattygroves
Perhaps it's time to step away from the keyboard before looking for my final 6 words. Clearly I'm grid blind!
11:33 am
Judi
Nah. Stay and suffer with the rest of us, Matty.
11:35 am
MollyL
<---Got the stalker joke
11:38 am
MollyL
I'm still wondering about the he6/24 kitty
11:40 am
rururocks
well you've heard about hot dogs haven't you?
11:41 am
Judi
*air whistles through head*
11:43 am
mattygroves
Well, I made a cup of tea for both of us and had a cigarette (naughty me). Just six words and a mushy brain
11:44 am
rururocks
time to quit matty
11:44 am
rururocks
cigarettes are going to kill you. just sayin'
11:45 am
mattygroves
I know. So Jeff (my OH) tells me constantly. He is a non smoker, in that he doesn't buy cigarettes - he just nicks the them from me occasionally
11:46 am
MollyL
Hard to take "you should quit" advice from someone who still smokes.
11:46 am
rururocks
I'd nick them into the garbage can if it were me
11:46 am
Babs1
my fix for dishwashers was to stop buying them and wash by hand...
11:46 am
mattygroves
Indeed - he does smoke far less than I do, but still
11:47 am
mattygroves
I did quit once for five and a half years. It was very dumb to start again. Though I'd hate to put the weight on I put on the first time I quite
11:47 am
Babs1
how do they fake Bosch brand, Judi?
11:48 am
rururocks
I'd rather be dealing with weight issues than diseased lungs
11:48 am
mattygroves
I know, I know
11:48 am
mattygroves
Five words left now...
11:48 am
mattygroves
Three of which are HYs
11:49 am
mattygroves
But sadly, hysex isn't a word.
11:49 am
Judi
Good question, Babs. I was surprised to hear that myself. I guess they allow other manufacturers to build & brand them. (Like Whirlpool owns Maytag). Repair guy suggested never to buy Bosche appliances at Lowes or Home Depot as they are something else that's been re-branded. Also, look to make sure your Bosche was made in Germany - not China or some other cheap labor country.
11:49 am
rururocks
I have great sympathy for smokers it's a very difficult addiction to break
11:51 am
Judi
Extraordinary how easily and commonly consumers are deceived by this practice.
11:52 am
rururocks
I didn't know that Judi.. very interesting
11:53 am
mattygroves
May I have a clue for any one of the HY words, please? I really should think about cooking dinner (which at least has the advantage of forcing me to open a bottle of wine, as the meal has wine in it) but my minor OCD would really like me to finish this grid first....

two left - et6/21 (the second) and et7/32
11:58 am
MollyL
WOW...you all buy some high end dishwashers. I just priced those Bosche models. Whee
11:58 am
Judi
Et6: type of gas.
11:58 am
rururocks
I wouldn't buy a bosche.. too hard to repair
11:59 am
mattygroves
I have one that I think is a type of gas, the first one - is the second also gassy?
11:59 am
rururocks
I am ok with Kitchenaid.. they're easy to fix and fairly durable.
11:59 am
Judi
Yeah. They are crazy expensive.
11:59 am
mattygroves
I'd go Bosch or Siemens every time
12:00 pm
rururocks
glad that wasn't a misspelling :D
12:00 pm
mattygroves
Heh. Yeah. Though, in truth....nah, I won't go there
12:01 pm
Judi
It's the computer parts (touch panels) that poop out so fast. Guy says those parts all wear out at about the same rate, no matter what brand. Nice to know that manufacturers have lowered the bar so much.
12:02 pm
rururocks
I would imagine siemens are hard to come by in England :D
12:02 pm
mattygroves
No, we have plenty here in the UK. We're drowning in Siemens ;)
12:03 pm
Judi
*double snort*
12:04 pm
mattygroves
Can anyone please help me with the second et6/21 and its possibly related 7/32? I'm completely word blind at the moment, methinks
12:05 pm

And Doctor Who comes on in an hour and three quarters. And rugby world cup
12:07 pm

12:15 pm

Well, Doctor Who at the moment clashes with the World Cup Rugby. Jeff kindly watches the first half of the rugby in the bedroom

There is a tide in the affairs of men, Which taken at the flood, leads on to fortune. Omitted, all the voyage of their life is bound in shallows and in miseries. On such a full sea are we now afloat. And we must take the current when it serves, or lose our ventures.

We have had very chilly, damp rainy weather for days. Supposed to be nice and up to 15 C tomorrow (yay)

Autumn..... it was always my favorite season. But last October 20, my youngest son (Ian, 26) passed away. Seeing the pumpkins this year is causing anxiety and sadness.... Trying to find peace again. <3
2:30 pm
TraderKate
Oh Susan, that is so sad to hear. My heart foes out to you.
2:30 pm

Oh, Susanj........... how dreadful. I hope you find comfort. My deepest sympathies.

Susan, I'm so sorry.

I am trying hard now to stop isolating myself, and it's a struggle. I want people to remember, but then I also want them to leave me alone.... It's going to be okay. I have a wonderful family, and a good support group.
2:32 pm
susanj2
Just missing him a lot.
2:33 pm
MollyL
Susan, I have gone through a great deal of personal loss in recent years. All I can tell you is that if you don't continue to enjoy life, and seasons, then you might as well have died too.
2:34 pm
Soodle
Oh, you poor poor girl. I just cannot allow myself to imagine how bereft you are feeling. If you feel like talking about Ian.... please do. If not.. that's grand. Just know that my heart goes out to you. (((Hugs)))
2:36 pm
susanj2
Molly, there have been days that I wished to just stop breathing. But the rest of my family would then have more to deal with. I love them, and can't wish to cause them more pain.
2:37 pm
susanj2
Soodle, thank you! It helps to talk about him, but it also hurts. And thank you for saying his name. You'd be surprised at how many people avoid this, like they think they will make me remember my loss. Like I could forget, for even a second.
2:37 pm

i'm so sorry susan.

Be good to yourself .
2:39 pm
MollyL
No one that we loved, who has left us, would want us to go around being sad all the time. As hard as it is to lose a loved one, you honor their memory better by enjoying life as the "two of you". Even though that person has left.
2:40 pm
hurshy
i hope you get to have good dreams about him sometimes. that is one of the things that helps me, though who i've lost is a cat not a human... i have dreams now that basically are, he's still with me, he just doesn't need food anymore, only love.
2:40 pm
Soodle
Words fail me, Susan. Your online Babble friends are here for you, if you need us. You are clearly a very courageous lady.......
2:40 pm
susanj2
Yes, Molly. One mom told me this, she lives her life to honor her son. It's just hard to do... some days are harder and you just feel tired. I felt like I aged from 58 to 1000 in an instant.
2:41 pm
susanj2
I have had a couple of dreams. In one, Ian gave me a hug that I woke from and could still feel his touch, it was so real. <3
2:42 pm
MollyL
I get it Susan. The death of a loved one changes you. And people often don't understand that. Most times people offer cheery wishes, but you kind of know that they don't really get it, because they have not walked your path.
2:42 pm
hurshy
at first it was sort of hard to wake up from those, because it was like, oh, better than reality. but now having had more of them, i think they are more like reminders of what IS reality, a realer reality than the one i can experience with my senses.
2:44 pm
Habes
It's only been a year. Give yourself time. You have a right to feel sorry for yourself. Take time to do that. You will never heal. But, the pain will ease over time. I'm so sorry for your loss. I have two sisters, both of whom have lost children. I can't even imagine.
2:44 pm
Soodle
Susan... Do you feel like telling us about Ian? I constantly bore this community about my son, who is 25.
2:46 pm
MollyL
Habes made a good point. People say "it takes time" when you are dealing with a painful loss. But "time" means nothing in that spot of pain and disbelief.
2:48 pm
susanj2
I've been told that time doesn't heal this wound, that I will always feel the loss and miss him. But that over time, I will find a "new normal" and will learn to live around the hole in my heart. Right now, I'm still trying to WANT to do anything.... it went from "wow, look at the beautiful sunset" to "meh"
2:49 pm

But I'm slowly finding a way back.... I have 5 other grown children, his older siblings. And I have now 10 grandchildren. (one born today)

Wow, that is a great circle of support around you and nice that a new baby has graced your life.

is the new one a boy or girl?

Our family has always been able to pull together for each other. This is the worst thing for us, and we each have our own pain. But everyone knows not to shut the others out.

Ten grandchildren is wonderful. A day old grandchild is wonderful. Truly wonderful. Please God you will find yourself in a place where you can celebrate the wonder of those lovely kiddies.

Someday you will catch yourself smiling again. The hole in your heart will still be there. The baby born today will begin to fill it a little bit.

The new baby is a girl, and she looks a lot like Ian (they all look similar). And funny thing.... we had talked about naming him Hilary Faith if he was a girl. THis new baby has been named Faith. (his brother did not know)
2:52 pm
Soodle
The circle of life!! Nice.
2:53 pm

Are you geographically close to the new baby, Susan? Have you seen her yet?
2:54 pm
MollyL
You are fortunate Susan. I went through a period of six months when I lost my husband, my ex-husband and a boss who was very special to me. A new baby during that time would have helped ease the grief.

I live in California. My son and his family live in Israel. So the baby is far, but lucky me... my kids all pitched in and bought me a ticket to go....so I am in Israel now for this birth. :) It's the love of my family.... that is how I will make it.

Thank you all for letting me overwhelm the chat. And the love and comfort... <3 One short memory... Ian used to watch me play Babble. And one night I was stuck, about 6 years ago. And Ian said "hey, there's a word - OOTS" Not realizing it was a word, I typed it in. We both fell over laughing....

emoji are non-word symbols that show emotion -- from Japan originally.
3:38 pm
dcseain
the heart you posted, in ASCII, would be red as an emoji, for example.
3:38 pm
MollyL
When did emoticons become emoji?
3:39 pm
dcseain
when we started using the Japanese ones instead of ASCII ones.
3:39 pm

ty, dc for the xy stats. monkeys found them.

hi aloy. how do you babble on a tablet - i haven't been able to figure it out
4:36 pm
Aloyisius
was referring to my Ipad.. too much flipping back and forth when you go to the list. Haven't figured out how to do a split screen like I have up now on my pc
4:37 pm
Aloyisius
Really need to get Babble Expert back.. had it on the pc I fried with a spilt drink, sigh..

good idea to have a split screen - i have been flipping back and forth
4:46 pm
therealblah
but my friend has an iPad and we couldn't make it work
4:46 pm
MollyL
Tablets may be small, inexpensive and convenient, but they are not the best venue for certain computer applications, like playing Babble.
4:46 pm
Aloyisius
ooh.. much better with split screen. Just minimize both Babble and the list and put them next to each other. A time saver, but not as good as Babble Expert
4:46 pm
Aloyisius
agree Molly
4:47 pm
Aloyisius
even more difficult on the phone, but I do it when I'm traveling
4:49 pm
MollyL
I don't know how anyone plays this game on a phone. I have an aversion to little tiny screens and little tiny keyboards.

There was another babbler on earlier who lost her son also. She said the same thing. This should not happen to a parent.

hello...I know what you are talking about. It has been 2 and half years since losing my daughter. Her 42nd birthday would have been next Saturday
5:50 pm

No, it shouldn't! Two of my son's lifelong friends died in the last year also. They were all too young.
5:51 pm

So sorry phaeton! Birthdays are harder for me than holidays and the anniversary date. My thoughts are with you.
5:52 pm

phaeton- I am sorry for your loss. I lost my husband 18 months ago at age 47, and we have two children, so I know some of what you are feeling. Heartbroken. And today a friend succumbed to cancer, leaving her husband (on their 22n wedding anniversary) and two teenage daughters. I never realized that life was so full of death until I lost my husband-I had been blessed to not realize- but now, it make my wounds fresh every time I hear of someone else's loss. We need more empathy in this world. I hold you in my heart

yes, there is always something to be joyful about- that has been a lesson for me- I can be broken wide open and absolutely gitty all at the same time. Amazing how the human emotions work. But being surrounded by my daughters and our amazing friends, having a great job, my life continues to be a happy one, just with a lot more sadness and a new awareness of the difficulties of the world that i was so ignorant of before. congratulations on the new babe. so exciting.

There is just one thing I can say: I lost my son to an express train nearly ten years ago and it still hurts. The man who conducted the ceremony said in his address that there was currently a very large rock blocking the way ahead. Gradually, and the time varies from person to person as grief is SO personal, That rock will move to one side allowing you to go past. You will never forget but your life will continue. It has taken me all of those ten years to be able to speak my son's name but, as the celebrant said, it has got easier. he is spoken of often with love and the members of the family who arrived after he died know who he is and recognise his photo. It isn't easy, and no-one said it should be, but it will get easier.
6:58 pm
JillF
I am so sorry for your loss Jaxx- I describe mine as a hole in the ground that i know is there but keep falling into- more and more I am able to walk around it instead of falling into it, but the fall is still possible and will be for a long time. strength and healing to you and yours

So sorry jaxx. Three of us here in chat today lost a child. It still isn't real for me.

Best description of grief: In the beginning, the waves are 100 feet tall and crash over you without mercy. They come 10 seconds apart and don’t even give you time to catch your breath. All you can do is hang on and float. After a while, maybe weeks, maybe months, you’ll find the waves are still 100 feet tall, but they come further apart. When they come, they still crash all over you and wipe you out. But in between, you can breathe, you can function. You never know what’s going to trigger the grief. It might be a song, a picture, a street intersection, the smell of a cup of coffee. It can be just about anything…and the wave comes crashing. But in between waves, there is life.
Somewhere down the line, and it’s different for everybody, you find that the waves are only 80 feet tall. Or 50 feet tall. And while they still come, they come further apart. You can see them coming. An anniversary, a birthday, or Christmas, or landing at O’Hare. You can see it coming, for the most part, and prepare yourself. And when it washes over you, you know that somehow you will, again, come out the other side. Soaking wet, sputtering, still hanging on to some tiny piece of the wreckage, but you’ll come out.
Take it from an old guy. The waves never stop coming, and somehow you don’t really want them to. But you learn that you’ll survive them. And other waves will come. And you’ll survive them too. If you’re lucky, you’ll have lots of scars from lots of loves. And lots of shipwrecks.â€
