Got as far as the anaesthetic room when suddenly it filled with folk and machines and everything came to a halt. There I was lying on my back and all these faces appeared apologising. they stopped the op as my heart was awry and my heart rate had touched 130. They whisked me off into a corner for four hours while they tried to find me a bed. To cut a long story short, I had atrial fibrillation and so no op. I have now been subjected to every test known to woman, given all sorts of drugs including warfarin and now I have to wait until my heart settles down before they can operate. It is another long wait.

very, very tired. Long week. And so sad. But otherwise we are good. The boys are healthy and at the moment happy. And the house has surfaces to sit on, so a bit of a nice thing to be able to say that, finally!

We're fine here, thank, stid. I'm waiting for a date for the op on my dislocated collar bone whilst doing physio for that and my knee. It seems the stair fall triggered osteo-arthritis in some joints. Other half received the date for his op, of a different kidn, today. Early January which means he will be out of action on his birthday, but at least relieved of pain (in the end) at last.

We just finished conferences. I think they went pretty well. The parents of my students are fortunately appropriately concerned when needed, and relatively relaxed otherwise (in contrast to last year when I had a whole crop of "only" children!)

tri, there are so so many places that need volunteers! and when i do volunteer work i feel so so good about it.

hospitals need volunteers for many jobs. old age homes: i used to go and just visit with the residents and talk to them. chat with them. and they were always eager for company. and the homeless: one of my friends, a man, made his money and retired early. he goes to talk to the homeless. they are mostly mentally ill, but he says that he speaks to them and they are always happy to chat with him. people are lonely. he also has made it his job to go to shoe stores and collect used shoes that customers leave and give them to the homeless. he gets them and brings them to shelters and etc.
