I don't generally use the a2z word finder, but I really wanted to know if there were any Q words in this puzzle. According to that site, there are no words that contain quu, qur or qus or that end in qu that could be made from this puzzle. It's probably not a 100% definitive list at that site, but I'm trusting it on this one. :)

First, some mathematics:

The 2 40-point 8s only contain letters that have a value of 1 point.

The 5 45-point 8s all contain the d, with only other letters valued at 1 point.

The 4 50-point 8s all contain the c, with only other letters valued at 1 point.

Other clues beyond that:

Two of the 50-point 8s contain the same letters, with the 3 beginning letters switched around a bit.

At least two of the 45-point 8s also contain 6 letter words (with a 2-letter suffic). Both of those 6s are for 18 points.

Not sure how to give clues to the words themselves without completely giving them away, but I'm sure others can.

OK, just got one of the 50s by randomly trying a combination of letters that seemed like a word. It was! It sounds like a particular disease, and basically has the same meaning as said disease, but is spelled slightly differently.

I haven't found all of them, but one way to start is with prefixes and suffixes. In this puzzle you've got de- re- -ed un- and -s that can be used to make shorter words longer. And sometimes looking away and then back later will make a longer word just appear to you.

No, it was beginning with I, the 9th letter of the alphabet. In this font, a capital I can sometimes look like a lower-case l, so we were just calling it "eye" so that people would know which letter. A bit confusing, I agree!

I have the fruity C word and its plural. I have the 7 & 8 letter C words, and 5 others that have the same base. But I'm completely stumped after that!

I mean, the words have to start with cid or cit, right? I don't think there are any cih- words.

So, any clues on the other two C words?

I'm still working on the H and O words. Did find a 9th O at least.

OK, I found as many O words as have been posted so far, and all the 8s that have been posted so far.

The other 8 for 40 would be what happened to the second place contestant in a particular contest in a local fair, for example. It is a compound word.

So, I'm off to bed with 248/3774. Can't wait to see some of the other word lists in the morning!

Christine - I like to called myself a Phoenician, as in Phoenix, AZ. 'Colony' is such an ugly word ( ;) ). I would think that Canada and AUS would still call themselves former colonies, just because they continue to voluntarily consider themselves subjects of the crown. My experience with Pooh is from when I was a child, 60+ years ago. It was the first set of books sent to my daughter by her English grandparents...But, when DD was about 4, I took her to London, and we saw the Disney Pooh - she said his voice was wrong.
