I am back after volunteering at the local elementary school (with DH!) for their annual carnival! (It's all of 2 blocks from our home; & our grandson is in 2nd grade there). Our volunteer shifts were 1 1/2 hours long, then we stayed for about 45 minutes longer. But by that point, the noise & activity were too much for "us old fogeys" & we had to come home.
I don't know how teachers can take it; but maybe the noise & activity for a carnival is much worse than while school is in session.

One of the things about this school is that it's got so much exposed concrete & very little sound reducing material; I know that there used to be acoustical ceilings in some schools; or even sheet rock walls; but this school has absolutely no type of building material for sound reduction at all

When there is a serious community emergency, nurses are called in to help out. When the 35W bridge went down here in the Twin Cities, I was working in risk management at that time (I was on workers comp after 3 surgeries from an on the job injury to my foot) so I wasn't called in.
