Current rescues are her, another cat (who is likely to be adopted after Christmas, but potential adopter is leaving town and didn't want to take him until she gets back), a raccoon who's now pretty well over his concussion and broken arm and a bat that I have no idea why he's here, other than he won't fly - no apparent injuries or illness, and he eats and gets around his enclosure just fine.

sure. foster-fail is when the foster home adopts the fostered pet; for a lot of rescues that then means they can't (or won't) foster any more because they already have a full house.

Alberta offers a lot of places to live in the woods, I must admit - same for Manitoba and British Columbia. Probably Ontario and points east as well, but I don't know them well.

BC - I'm about 2 hours south of the border now, so moving a bit north would still be in range of visiting family. Beyond that, well, basically wherever someone needs another veterinarian. And given that we have clients who drive down from canada, I imagine that demand exists.

Vets are much in demand all over Alberta and BC - and in rural areas a vet who is actually interested in the little animals and wild animals is especially desirable. We have too many who think animals that aren't earning money for the ranchers are not desirable!

i agree, cybernan -- but i lay the blame also on insurance companies (they make more money if they keep you sick and out of the hosp) and pharma companies (they make more money selling you palliatives rather than cures)

still - my friend was charged $600 for a shot of antibiotic and 5 stiches in her finger when she was in Palm Desert --- that would have come under medicare here, therefore "free" and having required medical care in the UK and France while visiting, I'm pretty sure the tab would have been around $50 in either of those countries

many people in michigan drive without insurance, when I had to go to court for my ticket ahead of me they had case after case, same issue, judge gave us something called an "attempt" which means we attempted to get insurance but could not afford, and got a lesser fine. So there's that.

Could be, but I'm only about 100 miles east of you. But, the third vehicle is old and doesn't have physical damage coverage. Depends on company and vehicles. But, I got an Outback for my birthday, and that is what drove the premium up. You really have to keep a close eye on the renewal info each year too, my company keeps upping the mileage and I have to call and get it down to reality - every six months!
