1:28 am
rururocks
Were you in a jam GR?
1:32 am
flosey
falling asleep, 28 to find tomorrow, good night all
1:34 am
grannyrose
sweet dreams flosey.
1:34 am
grannyrose
and ruru ?? just what did you mean by that remark, honey?
1:35 am
rururocks
Just a pun on browned bread
1:36 am
grannyrose
lolll. know dear man.
1:37 am
rururocks
Are you trying to butter me up?
1:38 am
grannyrose
better than smearing your good name.
1:38 am
rururocks
I try not to spread myself too thinly
1:39 am
grannyrose
talking about buttering up... which side do you hit the carpet on...
1:40 am
rururocks
I don't know that saying
1:41 am
mkg
bad grid. cant get these words. any clues fo r the 7s?
1:41 am
grannyrose
the chance of the dropped toast hitting the carpet butter-side down is proportional to the cost of the carpet.
1:42 am
rururocks
That would be crumby
1:43 am
grannyrose
hi7. large leg joint + past tense of discharge of a gun
1:44 am

1:44 am
grannyrose
lolll. rur, did you see how well i have responded to my injections in my lower back?
1:45 am
rururocks
No. Do tell?
1:45 am
mkg
ty for sa clue. got it. ty
1:46 am
grannyrose
i am walking like i haven't for the last 4 years. also back on the stationary bike.no pain at all..
1:46 am
rururocks
Oh great. I am glad to hear that GR
1:47 am
grannyrose
europe is looking better and better.
1:47 am
rururocks
That would be great for you
1:48 am
grannyrose
my lower back pain has been present for over 30 years. and no fusion needed., it also makes my north american/canadian trip look good too.
1:49 am
rururocks
I'm going to Canada again in July
1:49 am
grannyrose
suffice to say, my admiration for my pain doc has grown.
1:50 am
rururocks
No one needs to suffer in pain. I get it
1:50 am
grannyrose
two more years dear friend... i hope to visit you and see your wonderful country.
1:50 am
rururocks
That is great they are finally helping you
1:51 am
grannyrose
i now have to build up my tolerance of activity.
1:52 am
rururocks
Yes. Just don't overdo it and keep building strength
1:53 am
grannyrose
i was so afraid of a spinal fusion. these injections have helped me.. with no drastic intrusion into my spine.
1:54 am
rururocks
They are developing new technologies to avoid spinal fusion and often it doesn't help anyway
1:54 am
grannyrose
ruru, there is something about intrusion into the spinal canal. i really did not want to end up paralysed.
1:55 am
grannyrose
ruru... there are now injections, where the docs use cement to fuse the bones together.
1:55 am
Kamanjah
Rose, that is such fantastic news!! I'm so happy for you!
1:55 am
rururocks
That is what i read about
1:56 am
grannyrose
kam... {{hugs}} and abundant kisses.,
1:56 am
Kamanjah
I'm still refusing surgery I was told I would be paralyzed without...25 years, and my chiro is my best pain reliever, along with the prescribed stuff, that is..
1:57 am
grannyrose
everywhere i go, people tell me it is wonderful to see how i am able to walk and move.
1:57 am
Kamanjah
So great! Now you have to keep exercising to get those muscles back in shape...and keep them in shape.
1:58 am
grannyrose
what i have had is a chemical denervation.
1:58 am
grannyrose
kam, back on the stationary bike. and in a few days, i am going to factor in walking too.
1:58 am
Kamanjah
Someone else I know had that done and is very happy with the result. He's walking a lot better, and doing a lot more - like building a new house!
1:59 am
Kamanjah
I hope you have good reading for the bike sessions. Walking is so much better because you can find things as you wander...
2:00 am
Kamanjah
Well, maybe not better, but a lot more fun!
2:01 am
grannyrose
kam...i need to build up my tolerance. bike first. it is so much easier...then walking. don't forget i suffer from fibromyalgia.
2:03 am
Kamanjah
I know, so do I. Magnesium is good for muscles to heal and keep on moving - I take mine every night. I try to keep walking as much as possible to keep my legs strong. My neck is what is a mess, but so goes life. Go slowly, my dear.
2:08 am
grannyrose
kam i am going slowly. with the FM i have quivering muscles. any exercise exaggerates that, which is very painful.
2:10 am
Kamanjah
You'll get there, just do what you can, then rest up. Every day you'll be able to do a tiny bit more. I hate the "I overdid it" shakes.
2:12 am
grannyrose
oh yeah, they're the worst. particularly when himself does not understand.
2:12 am
grannyrose
he queried me about the fact i sleep 11-12 hours every night. i asked him, what about the hours i am awake between 2 and 6am?
2:14 am
grannyrose
he asked what do you do then? i said i lie there staring at the ceiling in the dark. he asked... why don't you turn on the light and read? i said... i don't want to disturb your night's sleep.
2:14 am
grannyrose
he did have the grace to look ashamed.
2:16 am
Kamanjah
Mine understands. Unfortunately, he has Parkinson's, which is somewhat similar, but a lot worse, I think.
2:17 am
Kamanjah
My father-in-law doesn't understand the sleeping till 11AM thing though. I think he is starting to understand since hubby talked to him about different chronic diseases.
2:18 am
Kamanjah
Hubby and I both have weird sleep patterns and just leave each other alone. He can sleep through anything, but if I'm in bed and he's up, he'll close the door so he doesn't bother me.
2:19 am
grannyrose
{{hugs}} kam and loads of support. xoxox
2:19 am
Kamanjah
Back at ya!
2:20 am
Kamanjah
Ya know, I just get up when I can't sleep, and then go back to bed when I get sleepy again.
2:20 am
rururocks
What's wrong with quivering muscles in bed? 😀
2:23 am
Kamanjah
They wake the other person up! You know, like a cat or dog continually scratching? It's annoying, but my hubby can't help it. Fortunately, his stops when he falls asleep, and if he can't sleep, he gets back up...trade-offs when your body doesn't work quite right.
But I will give you another groan for the double entendre :)
2:23 am
grannyrose
nothing ruru.. so long as they are quivering for the right reason...
2:23 am
Kamanjah
Ru, how did you get a smiley face in this chat?
2:24 am
rururocks
I typed it in
2:24 am
Kamanjah
I did too :)
2:25 am
Kamanjah
but it's still text...
2:26 am
rururocks
I am sending from my cell ph5
2:30 am
rururocks
I am off to sleep. Take care
2:30 am
Kamanjah
Sleep well!
2:38 am
Kamanjah
Well, I just learned a new ok word. This is a tough one for me, the Ks about killed me off, but I finished them up, still 23 to go.
3:39 am
sprite
good morning all
3:39 am
sprite
k grids suck!
4:10 am
zoozzoom
Hello, Sprite , if you are still here :-)
4:10 am
sprite
*hugs zooz* Hello dear man, yes I am. How are you and how are your parents doing?
4:12 am
zoozzoom
I am okay thank you. Mother is doing okay too. had some bad news when dad went to the doctors but will not discuss it as it is not my place to.
4:12 am
zoozzoom
How are you doing?
4:13 am
sprite
all my best for your father then, and your mother too. And you *hugssss*
I am fine. Feeling good, enjoying the cold but sunny winterdays here.
4:13 am
zoozzoom
Oh gosh no I want the warmer weather here NOW! lol
4:14 am
sprite
lol :) I like it right now. Sun and clear skies and this cripsy cold air. Healthy weather.
4:16 am
zoozzoom
R tile greyed out!
4:16 am
sprite
good job :D
4:17 am
zoozzoom
I do not think it is going to be that easy all the way through some how.
4:17 am
sprite
no way. 16 K words. Beastly ;)
4:18 am
zoozzoom
Oh great at least it will be a challenge!
4:18 am
sprite
nah. Ks are never a challenge. Just a cruel and unusual punishment
4:19 am
sprite
got them out of the way first though, so the rest is easy ;)
4:19 am
zoozzoom
Wow you are good!
4:20 am
sprite
not with Ks I ain't, lol. I just get them out of the way first, so I can enjoy the rest of the grid.
4:21 am
zoozzoom
Well i am on the Ks now and I would like to get them out of the way and have stalled at 8! lol
4:21 am
zoozzoom
Moving on to the O now.
4:22 am
sprite
they are all 5 or below in length, if that helps
4:23 am
zoozzoom
That is good to know as I know some of the Ks we have had in past grids can be rather large! Thank you.
4:23 am
sprite
and my new word learned for today: pa6/30. Another archaic word of course
4:24 am
zoozzoom
Well the Enable we use is archaic so that would fit perfectly lol
4:24 am
sprite
hehehe true
4:25 am
sprite
yeah with shorter words we just have to whip them monkeys!
4:27 am
zoozzoom
Yeah my fingers are pressing away at the keyboard without a care but it is the brain that gets annoyed when nothing seems to take lol
4:27 am
sprite
very true, same here. Especially with K words, when my brain shuts down and claims it doesn't even KNOW 16 K words.
4:28 am
sprite
such a pathetic liar, that brain of mine
4:29 am
zoozzoom
Just been feeding mine with an apple but the apple is a bit too sharp!
4:30 am
zoozzoom
No wonder they were only a £1 for six.
4:30 am
sprite
cook them into applesauce
4:31 am
zoozzoom
No way! I would have to buy some pork then to go with it!
4:31 am
sprite
hahahaha sounds good to me
4:32 am
sprite
a favorite children combination here is chicken, french fries and applesauce.
4:32 am
zoozzoom
ooh now chicken and fries sounds nice!
4:33 am
sprite
my liar brain keeps telling me 'insipient' is a word.
4:34 am
mattygroves
Morning all! Tricky little grid - I'm over halfway but only have 1 six, no sevens and I'm missing the O in the first column and the E and the H in the last column. It's going to be toughish, I think (I have 11 of the Ks)
4:34 am
zoozzoom
Very good phantom though, Sprite!
4:34 am
sprite
dictionary agrees! It means lack of wisdom; foolishness. Tsk.
4:35 am
zoozzoom
Hello, Matty :-)
4:35 am
sprite
hiya matty! *hugs* You are well on your way though. If you want any clues, please let us know.
4:35 am
sprite
not a phantom, just not valid in enable for some odd reason.
4:36 am
mattygroves
I will! Still monkeying away (which is nearly PB). Jeff's with his parents this weekend so I'm all on me own :)
4:36 am
zoozzoom
Oh yes you are right!
4:36 am
MollyL
Incipient is the usual spelling
4:36 am
sprite
could be relaxing, a few days to oneself
4:37 am
mattygroves
Indeed - I'm going to a friend's for a sleepover tomorrow with gin.
4:37 am
zoozzoom
Ah that is probably why then, molly.
4:37 am
sprite
hi Molly, incipient has a different meaning though. That is related to beginning things, isn't it?
4:37 am
zoozzoom
Are you taking tonic with you too, Matty lol
4:38 am
sprite
sounds great, matty! :)
4:38 am
mattygroves
Oh yes - though Sarah will no doubt have some
4:38 am
sprite
why ru4 perfectly good gin with tonic? ;)
4:38 am
mattygroves
It should be fun - my friend and her nearly 18 year old daughter (who, I don't think, will be drinking gin, though she likes the odd port and lemonade, would you believe) :)
4:39 am
mattygroves
Oh, we'll try gin cocktails and tonic and just on its own. I doubt it'll be too messy but should be fun
4:39 am
zoozzoom
<--- Not keen on gin.
4:39 am
zoozzoom
Back in a bit got to get a bit of apple out that is stuck in my teeth. It is really annoying me know.
4:39 am
mattygroves
May I have stats for that E and that H in the last column, please?
4:39 am
MollyL
Really Zoom? I thought it was like a national requirement of the UK to like gin. : D
4:40 am
zoozzoom
Now not know LOL
4:40 am
sprite
hi7/40 compund
4:41 am
mattygroves
Thanks - looking now :)
4:41 am
mattygroves
Found that weird E - thanks :)
4:41 am
sprite
let us know if you need more of a nudge
4:42 am
sprite
the en is a mushroom, and of course japanese in origin. The japanese really love their mushrooms.
4:42 am
sprite
close, zooz.
4:42 am
zoozzoom
sorry..that is what happens when I leave the room without putting the cursor back
4:43 am
sprite
yeah you should have told us you were back, lolllll
4:43 am
mattygroves
Found it - thanks! :)
4:43 am
sprite
welcome back, zooz
4:43 am
zoozzoom
Got it..Sorry once again.
4:43 am
mattygroves
Thanks to that, I now have nbt/nbs, for what it's worth. But at least the sun's come out.
4:44 am
zoozzoom
Not seeing that E and enorm is out of reach.
4:44 am
sprite
it is 3 syllables, zooz, and in japanese most syllables end in vowels.
4:44 am
mattygroves
I monkeyed it....it uses the high value letter
4:45 am
zoozzoom
Ah that did it thank you!
4:46 am
zoozzoom
Actually I am sure it has been in the grid before.
4:46 am
sprite
yes it has. But rarely enough to be forgotten again
4:46 am
MollyL
It has, people usually clue it as "the mushroom"
4:46 am
mattygroves
My phantom of the moment is aphid.
4:46 am
MollyL
That is the only way I remember it.
4:47 am
sprite
I'll add it to the babblet list
4:47 am
zoozzoom
I will try and remember that, Molly.
4:47 am
MollyL
Words like that and naan do not stick in my memory because I don't eat them.
4:47 am
mattygroves
Sprite, can you tell me anything about that archaic P?
4:48 am
mattygroves
Naan is lovely!
4:48 am
sprite
matty, it has an ending that looks yiddish.
4:49 am
sprite
and it starts with exchanging money for stuff... but it means heathendom.
4:49 am
sprite
oh I love naan. Especially garlic naan.
4:49 am
zoozzoom
My phantom is : Passion.
4:49 am
MollyL
I got that word from the point value. I've never heard of it before and I am quite the heathen.
4:50 am
sprite
it was new for me too. My new word learned for today. Don't think it will stick in my head though, lol
4:50 am
sprite
ah poor zooz. Passion should never be a phantom :D
4:50 am
MollyL
Sorry Enable, but anyone who has changed a soaking wet diaper knows that pissy is a word.
: P
4:51 am
mattygroves
Tis a strange word :) Thanks!
4:51 am
sprite
yeah. And when mad but not flaming red angry, we can be pissy too.l
4:51 am
sprite
yay matty!
4:51 am
mattygroves
And I agree re the pi word :)
4:51 am
MollyL
I thought the mad definition of that word was what made it common and acceptable.
4:52 am
sprite
I would agree. But then again, let's never accuse enable of common sense and logic.
4:52 am
MollyL
No, not in a million years.
4:57 am
sprite
fireflies. Not too bad a grid, apart from the 16 ks.
4:57 am
mattygroves
Well done Sprite! I have 49 left - seem to have come to a standstill
4:57 am
zoozzoom
Congrats, Sprite!
4:57 am
zoozzoom
54 left here.
4:57 am
sprite
anything I can help with before I go and pretend to be a productive member of this household?
4:58 am
mattygroves
What are the stats for the other 7?
4:58 am
zoozzoom
Ha it would be!
4:59 am
mattygroves
Thanks. I shall hunt for it!
4:59 am
sprite
they call him mr know-it-all, matty ;)
4:59 am
mattygroves
Tee hee! (my Jeff is a bit like that...)
5:02 am
sprite
men... *grin* *hugs zooz because the exceptions prove the rule*
5:02 am
sprite
I am off for today. *hugs* for all who want them and a vague wave in the direction of babble for those who don't. Have a lovely day.
5:05 am
zoozzoom
Have a great day, Sprite!
5:07 am
sukee
Good morning all
5:07 am
zoozzoom
Hello, Sukee :-)
5:10 am
sukee
aww Pi**y should be there.
5:10 am
sukee
I mean HO***y is there :)
5:11 am
sukee
So, today snow is here and it's windy.
5:13 am
zoozzoom
It has very slightly got milder here. We are at 7.3c so far!
5:14 am
sukee
It's -2 here, feels like -9
5:14 am
sukee
Not bad considering it is January
5:15 am
zoozzoom
It will do with the wind chill factor, Sukee :-(
5:15 am
sukee
This year we haven't had the real cold, cold days like -30
5:16 am
sukee
It's all uphill from here, February almost...
5:17 am
zoozzoom
With the house I got I would not survive temperatures of those degrees!
5:17 am
sukee
It was tough in my drafty apartment.
5:18 am
zoozzoom
Hope you are keeping warm, sukee.
5:19 am
sukee
I am, this morning I am just in a t-shirt and it's okay. In the really cold weather I was wearing a fleece jacket I wear outside in March and October :)
5:19 am
sukee
Decided not to go to the gym today...
5:21 am
zoozzoom
Yes I often wear my coat indoors with this cold weather and crappy house I have lol with a hot water bottle to go with it all lol
5:22 am
zoozzoom
Oh are you not well then, Sukee, to not go to the gym or just fancied a day away from it?
5:22 am
sukee
Oh yes, I have a hot water bottle too. I have an electric blanket but I haven't hooked up the electric yet. Makes me nervous with the cats :)
5:22 am
sukee
I just don't want to go out in the snow and wind :)
5:23 am
sukee
In the winter I really should go later, it's tough at 7:00 AM.
5:23 am
zoozzoom
I am sure the electric blankets are okay. I just never fancied having one of those.
5:24 am
zoozzoom
Oh I can understand that, Sukee!
5:24 am
sukee
the cats like to chew on things and the cord has to stretch from the bottom of the bed to the top so it would be lying under my bed.
5:25 am
zoozzoom
Not worth the risk then.
5:25 am
sukee
Maybe one day I will use it :)
5:25 am
sukee
Whatever, the blanket itself is quite warm.
5:27 am
sukee
My mind keeps wanting to type asps.
5:28 am
zoozzoom
Well you are ot the only one who tried that :-
5:30 am
sukee
Well, I made chili yesterday so that will keep me warm :) Will be eating it for a couple of days.
5:31 am
zoozzoom
Very nice. And it freezes well too!
5:31 am
sukee
Yes, I have some in the freezer also.
5:33 am
zoozzoom
Okay I have 9 words left to find but I have run out of time for now. Have a great day, Sukee :-)
5:33 am
zoozzoom
Happy babbling everyone!
5:33 am
sukee
Well done. You take care.
5:35 am
sukee
Time for breakfast.

I hope we get creamed with snow today and I can snowshoe tomorrow and Sunday.
8:12 am
montreal13
yay ! -- we've been having mixed rain and snow with temps around the freezing mark...way warmer than normal for this time of year...
8:12 am
Scrabbler
We have had 2 weeks of warm temps and all of our snow melted.
8:13 am
Scrabbler
We started getting snow last night and will get a lot more the next 3 days.

hi Eva
8:15 am
EvaNadine
hello montreal!
8:15 am
Scrabbler
I used your pediatricians' group as an example at our partners' mtg on Tuesday, that we should consider charging for night calls.
8:16 am
EvaNadine
how did that go over?
8:17 am
Scrabbler
The difficulty is that 1/3 of our families have Medicaid. We are a rural practice with many families living in poverty.
8:18 am
montreal13
not seeing much this am - bbl for last 49 - nice seeing you scrabbs and Eva - hand and take care - poof
8:18 am
Scrabbler
Bye, Luc. Be well.
8:19 am
EvaNadine
i imagine it would be difficult to implement there...
i havent actually had to call during evening hours myself, as of yet. but from what i understand, theyre a little loosy-goosy about actually applying the charge.
8:19 am
Scrabbler
I think the key is education--tell mothers when to call after hours, when to call when we're open, to look at our website, to avoid the ER. But it is difficult to educate the ignorant that think they know everything already.
8:21 am
EvaNadine
getting charged a few times might educate them. heh ;)
8:24 am
Scrabbler
We try, but we see very simple folks.
8:25 am
bichon
I remember the early years with babies. I didn't act rationally sometime, but never called at night
8:26 am
mael
I'm lucky that our pedi's office has a 24 hr medical advice line
8:26 am
mael
I've called at night before, during epic runs of the stomach flu when my toddler was throwing up every 20 minutes for hours
8:27 am
Scrabbler
People don't respect us at all and are not resourceful, so they don't look up info or look at our website. They call us to ask about Tylenol doses.
8:27 am
Scrabbler
Poor kid, mael.
8:28 am
EvaNadine
mael - i was telling Scrabs that our pedi charges for the after-hours calls, but with exceptions:
the first (i think) 3 months after your baby is born, you can call with no charge.
also, if they end up referring you to the ER, they waive the fee.
8:28 am
Scrabbler
We have a triage nurse service take our calls from 9pm-8am but WE pay for those calls, not the parents.
8:30 am
mael
yeah, we're part of a big network and they specifically tell you to call, at any time, rather than take the kid to the ER.
8:31 am
mael
eva, I'm glad they give you the first three months at least! those are the nerve wracking ones, though luckily nothing went wrong for me or mine

Hey Car, they won't even take my blood any more. In the UK, if you have had cancer, you can't donate blood, bone marrow, organs (after death) ever. They say they don't know enough about how cancer works to guarantee that my donation can't spark cancer in another.

In the 1970s it was very chauvanistic. And I was living in a pretty chauvanaist north of England at the time. I got asked to leave a pub in Sydney because 'we don't serve women in here'
10:49 am
moolingwa
yeah, when I moved in the mid 80s, couldn't believe how racist they were, but the country's grown up a lot since then
10:49 am

one of many instances of rudeness and discourtesy from Aussie men. And the women didn't really speak - perhaps they were frightened of their men, who knows? I know it is very different now, thank goodness.

I think, generallly, those who travel a lot are friendlier and more open minded than those who stick to their own little corner of the world

needless to say, she has achieved pretty decent success. ;)

Question from a newby. I'm guessing that the letters and numbers underneath the puzzle are how many words start with that letter?
11:38 am
EvaNadine
beth -- no, the numbers are how many points that tile is worth when used in a word.
11:38 am
EvaNadine

tile stats are the number of words that begin with that letter and word stats are the number of words that are that length

Actually it's a funny story how I found this. I told a friend that I wanted to invent a new word game similar to Scrabble but with a lot of different twists to it so he said I should call it Babble since my name starts with a B. He did a search on Babble and found this game and told me Babble was already a word game. lol

Jan is it very cold over in Canada? What is your temperature there?
10:39 pm
origami
It has been a "cold" winter in the Sacramento Valley. Many nights dipping below freezing. And the rain - I know we shouldn't complain about rain in California - but enough already!
10:42 pm
sandyloo
We love the rain especially as we rely on rainwater for all our household water including washing and drinking . We have a large tank to collect water off the roof (130 thousand litres) Plenty in the winter but now summer is here we have half our tank left , Rain starts in April so it should last.
10:43 pm
MollyL
Weird. I only have one sa7 and it does not end in a sometimes vowel .
10:44 pm
origami
We have had a very serious drought in California for the last 5 years. Since CA provides most of the nation's food, it is a BIG problem. So I shouldn't complain.
10:44 pm
Minveryork
The sa6/27 ends in a vowel. That was my 2nd to last word
10:45 pm
Nef
You are right Molly. I clued the sa6/27
10:46 pm
origami
But because of the drought, the rains we have been having have caused a lot of flooding and mud slides, etc, since the ground can't absorb the water.
10:47 pm
origami
Most of my back yard has an inch of standing water going nowhere.
10:48 pm
MollyL
Ah, I see, thanks.
10:49 pm
