9:36 am
jlm_mi
jayferg - Do you have the 5/34 it's based on? If not, start there. There aren't many ways to make a 5-letter word for 34 points . . .
9:37 am
jayferg
i don't have it. does it start with R?
9:38 am

smacking my head....just got it. thanks.

morning all..do we have a word count on this bad boy yet? or anyone wanna divulge what their top score is so us normal low rankers can get a few words?
10:04 am
jlm_mi
I'm at 156/2012 and word count by starting letter was posted below by a few of us.
Solver says there are 202: 2x8, 12x7, 30x6, 59x5, 99x4 but use those numbers with caution. :)
10:06 am
Tolinya
thx jlm....something for me to strive for saw the starting word count so that will help...good luck and happy hinting to all
10:17 am
Christine
Goodmorning, y'all -- this humungeous word must contain Z and F or Y, right???
Aaaww, maybe this'll be the day I don't play, but then I'll go crazy, all day, trying to figure that darned word...
10:20 am
parsec
Lx12 and Sx24...
10:21 am
jlm_mi
Christine - The most useful clue for this word is that it starts with a 5/34. Find that, and build to find the 2 large 7s and the large 8. :)
10:31 am
Atalante
11 x D LOL
10:33 am
Christine
jlm_mi -- 5 tiles totalling 17 points, would need to use a 10, a 4, and three ones.... starting with R, that seems to give us a verrry odd word??
10:34 am
jenleigh22801
any hints on the 5/34?
10:36 am
jlm_mi
It doesn't start with R. Not sure where that misconception came from.

Christine
Wwlllll, I have that!! actually, it was the first word I found, afte I saw which tile was the highest value.... now, am I supposed to be able to build on that word, to get the 76- and 110-point words??
Oh boy, here we go again... good thing I'm retired, I have no life away from Babble.
11:12 am
jlm_mi
Yes. 3 different prefixes give you 7/76, 7/76 and 8/110.
11:14 am
Christine
Ahaaa.... as I sent the last chat, I realized God invented PREfixes, as well as suffixes.....
Success came in, and hit me between the eyes.
11:15 am
jayferg
the starting with R was last night when they gave a clue to the 7/76
11:25 am
Christine
Well, that's the problem solved - I've not been to sleep, read thru' the night'

So let's talk 7s. I have:
36,28,52,36,40,40,76,76
Anyone else?
12:06 pm
parsec
I only have seven 7s, but some are different:
36,32,40,40,40,76,76
12:09 pm
Atalante
nope - nor more than that. But I'm determined to get a 15th D LOL
12:12 pm
jlm_mi
LOL Atalante!
12:14 pm
Kirsty1
Mine 7s go: 36, 32, 40, 40, 28, 52, 36, 40, 40, 76, 76. Hope this helps. Does anybody know how many we are playing for today?
12:14 pm
Kirsty1
Great use of English in my last post eh??! LOL
12:16 pm
jlm_mi
Kirsty - Thanks for the 7s. The stats I have are posted at 10:04.
12:23 pm
jenleigh22801
So what does the 8/110 start with? I got the 5/34, and the 7 letter one. Maybe I'm having a stupid day, but i do not see the 8-letter word.
12:28 pm
Minski
Got 'em all.
The 5, the 2 7s and the 8!
now at 58/914
12:32 pm
jlm_mi
jenleigh - There are 2 7s based on that word, both with prefixes. The 8 is also a prefix (but, of course, a 3-letter one). Given the points, you can see that the prefix for the 8 must contain a letter worth 3 points. It is only 1 letter different from one of the 7s.
12:36 pm
jlm_mi
Kirsty - Do those first 2 40-point 7s start with the same letter?
12:39 pm
Swtbtrcup
the arctic is....
12:48 pm
boatierra
I won't take 'zoot'!! Don't these people know anything about fashion from the 1920's?!?
12:49 pm
Kirsty1
Jlm - yep :o)
12:51 pm
runningforhome
I thought zoot suits were 1940s. ;)
12:51 pm
jlm_mi
Thanks. Not what I wanted to hear. ;) But it should be helpful.
12:58 pm
boatierra
"I thought zoot suits were 1940s. ;)"
Hummmm, I think your are right. Anyhow, it should be accepted. I wonder is its considered a proper noun. If 'zoot' was person...one way to find out...dic.com.
12:58 pm
jlm_mi
It's a shame that zoot isn't accepted, and yes, it was 1940s. You can learn more here if you're bored. :-D
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/amex/zoot/eng_sfeature/sf_zoot_mx.html
12:58 pm
Christine
Does the 'arctic' clue refer to the two 7/40s??
12:58 pm
boatierra
Dic.com does not have it.
12:59 pm
jlm_mi
Christine - No, I think it was referring waaaay back to the 5/7/7/8 combo.
12:59 pm
Kirsty1
The first one is a herbicide and the second is an arena for a particular game. I came across the second one by chance and am quite quite sure that the dictionary definition wouldn't have helped me out much! Still, I hope it's of use to you :o)
1:03 pm
runningforhome
Thanks for the link, jlm.
1:09 pm
jlm_mi
I have the arena one - by chance. :) I'll look for the herbicide, probably the same way. :-p
1:14 pm
boatierra
Damn 'perfect'!!
1:18 pm
jlm_mi
I see that and ozone every $@#$ time I look at this puzzle!
1:23 pm
parsec
there are three 7/36s--that plus Kirsty's list gives us the right number from the solver...
1:24 pm
jlm_mi
parsec - Do you have any idea where they fit in the list? Or just in with whatever you already have would be good.
1:32 pm
parsec
it's next to the second 36.
1:35 pm
jlm_mi
Got it, thanks!
So, the 7s are:
36,32,40,40,28,52,36,36,40,40,76,76
1:45 pm
parsec
too bad there aren't quite enough Os for 'oloroso.' What a neat word!
1:56 pm
jayferg
what does the 52 7 start with?
2:03 pm
parsec
the 52 is a P.
2:08 pm
jlm_mi
Another starting letter tally, hopefully someone else will help me compare here:
12xC
14xD
8xE
16xF
11xL (at least 12)
12xN
6xO
24xP
18xR (at least 19)
23xS (at least 24)
28xT
5xU (at least 6)
1xY
2xZ
2:18 pm
parsec
Here's mine, for 193/2638:
13xC
13xD (missing at least one)
9xE
18xF
12xL
7xN (missing five or so)
8xO
29xP
18xR (missing at least one)
24xS
34xT
5xU (missing one)
1xY
2xZ
2:20 pm
Minski
Got the 7/52.
Thanks for the starting letter.
2:20 pm
jayferg
grrrr...i can't get those 7's. I only have 4.
2:26 pm
jlm_mi
I would say that four of the 7's are words that are not commonly known. But, given point values and relative location in the list, can be gotten with persistent noodling. Probably 4 others are not particularly common words, though many people would know them if they heard them.
2:32 pm
Tolinya
hahahah rolling on the floor it took a slang...hahahaha
2:34 pm
jlm_mi
Do you mean the 5-letter N word? I think I've seen that one taken before. It's a funny word!
2:34 pm
Tolinya
nope the 5 letter p word
2:35 pm
Tolinya
i think i've seen that word before in another puzzle and it's also a proper name so it just made me laugh at the definition
2:37 pm
jlm_mi
Oh, that one. Yeah, giggles here too. :-D
2:39 pm
Karin
Thanx for the letter tally it`s a great help .I`ve got 175/2322 so far.I have 9 /7`s should there be more?
2:41 pm
jlm_mi
Yep, more. See 10:04 (for words per length) and 1:35pm for 7s specifically.
2:42 pm
Minski
found all 12 C's
on to the D's
2:43 pm
jlm_mi
Minski - There may be more than 12 Cs. That's what I've found so far, and no one has posted finding more yet, but I'm still 20 words short of the total.
2:45 pm
parsec
can someone spare a clue for that fourteenth D? I have 1x6, 3x5 and the rest are 4. What am I missing?
2:46 pm
true_felicity
185 - 2474
Cx13
Dx12
Ex9
Fx16
Lx11
Nx11
Dx7
Px26
Rx17
Sx22
Tx32
5xU
1xY
2xZ
That's it. Kaput. Fini.
2:47 pm
Karin
Strike that just found my spec`s ,so I need at least 3 more.
2:48 pm
parsec
my 2:18 post is only one short of the total, if you add in the 8 missing words on the side. If anyone figures out the location of the mystery word, let me know!
2:48 pm
true_felicity
Oh, and Ox7.
I'm going cross0eyed from looking at this.
2:51 pm
jlm_mi
You are missing a 5-letter D, parsec.
Two of the words are related - one who does something, and the one they do it to. The third is also descriptive of a person. The 4th is more obscure, though it is the plural of a 4-letter word.
2:53 pm
jlm_mi
Wow, I totally missed parsec's list earlier. Don't know how. But, adding that to mine, I think this is the final word distribution:
13xC
14xD
9xE
18xF
12xL
8xO
29xP
19xR
24xS
34xT
6xU
1xY
2xZ
2:57 pm
parsec
that, plus the 12 N words =)
2:59 pm
parsec
and that still only makes 201, when the solver thought 202.
3:04 pm
jlm_mi
Right, those 12 Ns. :-p
And yep, I actually had found 13 C words, but only marked 12 on my list. So I thought I knew which 20 letters I still had to find, but I only know 19. Where's the other word?!?!?
OK, no need to panic yet. Still have 19 known words to find, LOL.
3:05 pm
jlm_mi
Are all of the U words un- words?
3:06 pm
parsec
all of mine are, jlm_mi. 3x6, a 7, and a 4, yes?
3:07 pm
jlm_mi
Yes, that's what I have too.
3:09 pm
parsec
well the missing one is either a six or a four, but knowing that is not helping me much.
3:27 pm
Karin
There is one u word not begining with un
3:29 pm
Tolinya
can i get a hint for the 5/34? i figure if i can get that and then the 7 and the 8 then i can go to the dr's office and to olive garden for dinner with a clearer conscious
3:29 pm
Minski
OK.
Now I have all 13 C's.
Back to the D's.....
3:31 pm
Minski
In the wintertime (in some climates) it gets cold and some things >>>>>>>>>
3:31 pm
Karin
parsec .It`s a 6/18
3:33 pm
jlm_mi
Karin - I don't know why it happens, but your posting that made it jump out at me! I've been trying that all day without the last letter, thinking verb-ish. Don't know why I couldn't complete it earlier.
3:40 pm
parsec
thanks, Karin. now I just have to find that last pesky R, and of course, the mystery word.
3:42 pm
jlm_mi
So, parsec, if you have all those words, that means maybe you can help me with the Os! I have the 7 and 5x4. Do you know the lengths of the other 2?
3:42 pm
Tolinya
k got the 5 and the 7 now for the 8 thanks for the hints
3:46 pm
parsec
jlm, I imagine you are missing the last two Os--a 6 and a 4.
3:53 pm
Tolinya
um ok got the 5 34 and then the 2 76's one 8 and one 7...but how do you get to 110???? looking looking
3:53 pm
jlm_mi
The 2 76's are both 7s. The 8 is similar to one of them. Work out the points to figure out how many point letter you need to add . . .
3:53 pm
jlm_mi
And thanks parsec - very helpful!
3:55 pm
Tolinya
oh drat jlm you're right..they're both 7's doh!
3:56 pm
parsec
anyone have more than 2 six-letter R words?
3:57 pm
Karin
jlm_mi. My O`s are: 1x7, 1x6 & 6x4
3:58 pm
jlm_mi
Thanks - got the O's from parsec's clue. On to 1xR and 1xE now, then the rest . . .
4:26 pm
Tolinya
oh happy dance got the 110!!!
4:26 pm
Tolinya
now i won't feel so bad eating my olive garden....breadsticks and salad here i come
4:28 pm
Tolinya
thank you jlm
5:15 pm
jlm_mi
parsec or Karin - are you still around? Any luck finding that last R? I also only have 2x6 that start with R.
5:42 pm
Karin
Still here I`ve only got 2x6 R`s too
5:45 pm
Karin
They are : 6/24 & 6/21.
5:59 pm
jlm_mi
Karin - Do you have all 19 Rs? I have only 18: 9x4, 5x5, 2x6, 2x7
6:07 pm
marigold
i have 7 4's, 3 5's, 1 6, and 2 7's in r's
6:07 pm
marigold
Am I missing any?
6:16 pm
Karin
No I`ve only got 17 at the moment just looking for the other 2
6:20 pm
QueenJennBee
How about a MEANING/definition hint on the biggies...thanks in advance.
6:27 pm
Karin
jlm_mi. Now I have the same as you .Any luck yet ?
6:28 pm
Christine
jennbee - early on, there are a lot of clues to the base word (F7/34) - cold, arctic, Christmassy - and you know it needs the Z and a 4 to get 17points... then think prefixes, and you too can do the happy dance.
6:31 pm
marigold
one of the 7's uses the same base word of the 110 and is worth 76 points
6:32 pm
QueenJennBee
got two of the three -thanks guys!
8:05 pm
pennypooh
This is a goody -- 8 letters 110 points.
8:46 pm
jlm_mi
Karin - No luck here. I've been stuck at 187/2514 for several hours now.
10:26 pm
runningforhome
I've only found one y-word... are there more?
11:43 pm
boatierra
I think there is just the 1 Y word.
