I'm fairly new to this page and I have a question of ethics - what is the consensus here about use of solvers for puzzles like this? I just did a quick google search and found a solver that has had today's puzzle entered into it twice already...
9:53 am
4t8
how cool - it shows that? basically, if you use it to find out how many words are poss./what the lengths are & how many say 8 or 9 letter words there are, that's okay. if you use it to find a word, you're cheating yourself and why bother to play.
10:01 am
King Henrik
using a solver to cheat is a waste of time.
it makes it boring and takes the challenge out of the game.
nobody gets too annoyed - its pretty obvious when people do it and it doesn't really affect anyone else.
(unless you're really uptight about your ranking!!!)
10:09 am
4t8
just realized i've been here nearly an hour. oops! 118/1664. guess that's fair - 2 words a minute or so.
10:24 am
jlm_mi
Krys10 - It was probably entered into that solver by me and runningforhome. We both use it to see the total number of words. I also have scripts that I use from it to calculate words per length and words per starting letter. When I saw that there were ~300 words today I knew I didn't have time to do it justice and decided not to even start playing, but was just checking in to see how others are doing.
Oh, and I do publish the word length and starting letter stats to help all when I calculate them. ;)
So, most days you'll find it solved by at least 2 people. :-D
11:03 am
Krys10
Makes sense - I never would have thought to even do a search until Youngster asked about it yesterday.
