How is it you all see these super long words? I have 50 words, and my best is a 6 for 39. I have improved since I started playing. Used to be I couldn't see past the 4 and 5 ltr words.
1:04 am

I'm not that good at it, but I generally look for likely prefixes and suffixes.

I go to bed, and wait for people to post useful clues ;)

yes, it's all about the prefixes and suffixes. and sometimes the dipthongs.

No, apparently it was 'epeeist', which I presume is some kind of record collector, and I wouldn't have got that if it was written on my knuckles.
6:39 am
Atalante
wouldn't that be someone who uses an epee??? *looks blank*
6:48 am
Christine
Since I couldn't add anything to 'edit/s', I tried combos using 'epist'... and got nowhere, very fast. But, we learn something, almost every day.... 'epeeist', huh?
So far, today, I have 133 words for 2102 points; I need to find the 9 and the 10... onward, ever onward.

Well, places to go, people to see things to do.... I think I'll take the grid with me, for the in-between times... who knows, perhaps I can find the last 100 words, if the doctors don't insist I pay attention to them (leave me alone, I'm babbling).

After a lot of hard work i've now got 5 x E words.
Still only one A word.
I think i should grab some coffee and come back in a while.
Bye bye Babble (i love you)

Well, claws' post tells me that the mystery word is 8 letters or longer. Don't know which, though, but I'd guess it's one of the bizarre S words.
11:10 am
fnurt
jlm, you might try looking for a 7/8 combo starting with D. I don't know about the mystery word however.
11:13 am
periwinkle
marigold, do you have the 9/90 yet. If so what does it start with please?
11:14 am
jlm_mi
I have the 4/6/7/8 combo starting with D and a 6/7 combo starting with D. Is there another 7/8 combo besides the 4/6/7/8 one? I found the 7/8/ combo starting with E after my last post.
11:19 am
fnurt
That's the one. I also have 2 other 7's starting with D.
11:22 am
jlm_mi
Yep, I just found another D7 to give me 3 total.
11:24 am
fnurt
I found a 7/44 starting with E but I am at a loss to find any 8 relating to it.
11:28 am
jlm_mi
My E7 is for 36 points.
11:33 am
jlm_mi
OK, found the E/7/44. I now have:
8s: 65,60,50,91(10),90(9),60
7s: 36,40,44,44,36,40,28,64,48,44
11:36 am
fnurt
There is a spectacular 7/44 that comes before the start of your list.
11:45 am
Krys10
jlm, does your solver clump all 8-letter and 8+ letter words together?
11:47 am
fnurt
I have a 8-60 that comes before the 10. Are we talking about two different 60s, or did you make a mistake in transcribing your list?
11:49 am
jlm_mi
Krys - Yep, anything 8 letters or longer is put together in one count. But claws' list below has 1x9, 1x10 and 5x8 so I think that's the total count there.
fnurt - I have my words out of order on my list of 8s. It should read 65,60,50,60,91(10),90(9)
11:50 am
fnurt
Darn, I was hoping we had found the mystery word.
11:52 am
jlm_mi
Oh, and a note for fit1 if you're playing today. Yesterday you asked about solvers. The other solver I use is one that is called a "boggle/wordrace" solver. It gives a list of words for each length, but it doesn't use the enable dictionary. At the bottom of each list it also gives a count. So, here's what I do:
I take my glasses off, or if I'm wearing my contacts I squint to make the screen blurry. Then I solve for each length using the boggle/wordrace solver and look only at the count at the bottom. After I solve for all words 4 letters or longer I copy and paste that list into a file on my computer. I have a little script I wrote that can strip out the first letter of each word and I can use that to get the number of words per starting letter. Finally, I go to the boggle/tangleword solver and put in the same grid. Still squinting or without glasses I cound the words there, but I can't make them out to see what they are. There are 10 words per line in that output, so I can count the number of full lines, then the number of words on the last line. If it is more than the other solver gave, we have mystery words, like today.
11:53 am
jlm_mi
fnurt - The mystery word that I mentioned - I meant that there is one word that I don't know the length or starting letter for from the solver. But, the solver said there were only 6 words of 8 letters or longer, and claws found 7, so one of those is the mystery word. We just don't know the starting letter of it, but I'm guessing it's one of those crazy S words. Just a guess though.
But yeah, there is still one 8 that no one has posted a starting letter or points for. Hopefully someone will soon!

I am not on my A game today or something. I can only find 1 of the 4 U's and I still need 60 words overall or something.
12:03 pm
jlm_mi
It took me all morning to find the 3 U words I was missing. They basically all have the same root, and start with the same two letters. There's a 4, a 5, and a 6/7 combo for 21/32.
12:12 pm
jlm_mi
There's an English swear word that shows up quite frequently in these puzzles, and we can't quite make it today. But did anyone find it in French? Babble will take it! LOL!
12:19 pm

That is a great 7/44 to find! Thanks fnurt. :)

I've just been looking at Ms Jlm_mi and I have a 5 before your first 4 and 4x4s after that. But I only have 12 so we obviously have different words from each other - I think that implied at least 13 Ms in total :o)

I'm still stuck on the gossipy ones :(
4:47 pm
jlm_mi
The gossipy word works from a slang word for gossip, particular gossip in the verb form.
The new S7 I found doesn't have a definition, but it's a strange word. It's 40 points and appears to be the past tense of a verb. It's a suffix on a 5/S/14. I found it by taking a 5/S/16 and attempting a strange word that would be the person who does such thing. Then, I took that person and added a suffix. I don't know why I decided to try it. Desperation I guess. I was shocked when it accepted it.
4:48 pm

The 'gossipy' 7 and 8 letter words are part of a 4, 6, 7, 8 run that is based on a 4 for 8.

jlm_mi - thank you for your clue-list... I was sure there must be at least one word using the last four letters of the 'god' word... and I learned a new word for 'tisane', but oh boy! the last clue on the list I presume links to the English word for the French word already used.... I am the Queen of the run-on sentences..
