Easy to stray...life isn't perfect. Keeps us on our toes! But health issues are the worst. Little ones aren't so scary, but sudden occurrences are frightening. I don't know how medical care works in other countries, but here, you need to get sick on a weekday or have to use the ER, and insurance hates that, so it's really expensive.

we have an in-between step, the GPs that are on call for the weekend or night. They see you and decide whether or not you need to go to the ER. Or even, if it is really urgent, you go straight to the hospital.

Yeah, if it's a real immediate problem, the ER is fine, but GPs take weekends off and tell you if you feel you have to be seen, go to the ER. If it can wait, that's when the insurance balks. All they do is the minimum at the ER unless you're bleeding out or something, and ship you home to wait until you can get an appointment.
