I've never had one; but my kids have had many of them (they take after DH that way). I think my daughter has had about 12 at least. She would take any & all meds they gave her plus the nitrous oxide, plus she used headphones as distraction. Plan on sleeping the rest of the day.

My dentist said I would be sore, but it is not painful. So I asked him if he was just telling me that to make me feel better. So it has different effects on different people.

That is what my dentist said. Anesthesia shot would hurt the most. I am soo0oo hoping he is right. But I am such a baby and my teeth are oh so very sensitive!

I once tried driving home (after oral surgery) when I lived Up North in the hinterlands here in MN. It's a distance of about 50 miles; but once I got in the car, I realized that there was no way I could drive home! I called a friend who lived there & asked if I could sleep at his place that night (I'm not a safe driver on anything stronger than tylenol)

he'll paint your gums with a topical anesthetic, let it sit for about 5 minutes to let the area get numb. then he'll inject the anesthetic, will probably pull your cheek a bit to distract you - it's not pleasant, but only for a few seconds

no offense but min, listen to welki. if you do not have a roaring abces - and they would probably not do the root canal until after they gave yo ua coruse of antibiotics in that case- you will be fine. the worst part is holdin gyour mouth open!

then, once the anesthetic takes full effect, he'll tackle the root canal - you'll probably be watching tv. the most disturbing thing about it is the sound from the dental instruments

The dentist won't give me anything for pain. He just told me to take Advil or Tylenol. It's been over 10 yrs since I bought Advil or Tylenol. I never have to use it.

People react differently to pain. My daughter has problems with teeth pain; my son doesn't. For him root canals weren't such a big deal; but if he got burned or a cut on his hands, he was a big baby!
