I do a dayshift each month too. Not a lot of difference in distractions, we have a nice little office. But usually another kind of convos. Day shift has a lot of people who just want to talk, no real issues, just lonely. Nightshift has many intense topics.

They really are -- but there is a two-fold reason (beyond the exposure to disrupting chemicals and too much screen time). One is that laws now require schools to accept kids for kindergarten (or first grade) based on age alone, whether the child is actually ready for that grade; I generally have about 1/3 to 1/2 my class who would not be out of place a year back, but who struggle with both behavior and attention span.

The other factor is that the standards themselves are really not appropriate in the younger grades. We are asking third graders now to begin to grapple with abstract concepts and complex steps that most kids are really ready for until 6th or 7th grade. Not all the current standards are so out of whack, but many are... it means that students who are really very age and stage appropriate learn early on that nothing will be comprehensible or possible.
