DST has started here. Am glad it will be one of the final times... in 2021 it will be over and done with changing clocks every 6 months. Praise be.
1:13 am
Lizlin
Hi all and hugs Sprite.
1:14 am
Lizlin
Wow! I couldn't disagree more! I wish we had DST here. I hate that it's never light much after 7 pm here!
1:14 am
sprite
*hugs Liz* Hello dear one! I hope you and your beloved are doing well, though no doubt busy.
1:15 am
Lizlin
There is DST in other parts of Aus - in fact in Lickety's area the clocks change this coming weekend.
1:15 am
Lizlin
Yes we're pretty busy.

it takes weeks for my system to adapt to another rhythm. I am physically ill for about 10 days in Spring. So it is not for me.

must be confusing, to have different rules all over Australia. You have a number of timezones even without it, I believe.
1:17 am
Lizlin
Yes 3 or 4 time zones, i think and then a couple of states, like where I am, where we don't change our clocks and so we get out of kilter with everyone. So right now, it's after 5pm where Rose is, but after 4 here but on Sunday our times will be the same!
1:17 am
sprite
I guess it is the price you pay for your slice of paradise... no long evenings.
1:18 am
Lizlin
There's one state - south Australia, which is 30 minutes different from its neighbouring states.
1:18 am
sprite
lol, it is as confusing as Europe, but then in one country!
1:19 am
Lizlin
I put up with it but love being in Europe for long summer evenings but don't miss those days of driving to and from work in the dark.
1:20 am

I hear ya. I like the long evenings as well, though they are long enough without changing clocks for me. Lots of dark days here though, the climate is not too great

10:14 am

... m ... f .... m-f .... f-m .... bi ... varying ....
10:20 am
rururocks
the varying is for the man bun types ?
10:20 am
doseffing
... the difficulty seems to arise from the difference in timing during gestation of the genetic initiation of the physical gender systems ... and a somewhat earlier flooding of the system with sex hormones ... if a nine weeks you get flooded with testosterone or estrogen but physically at thirteen weeks you physcially become male or female opposite to what the hormones indicated then you can get this "confusion" (?) as to gender and a difference in physcoloogical and physical expressions of gender
10:22 am
dan2bit
and even chromosomally there are more than 2, though the percentage is very low for chimeric or intersex people
10:22 am
benji5550122
doesnt change the reality that there are only two, you can be a boy but be feminine, but you are still a boy
10:23 am
benji5550122
intersex isnt a third one, its a birth defect. Humans have two arms, there are people born with one ore three, that doesnt mean humans dont have a set number of arms.
10:24 am
doseffing
... sure it does ... all you have to do is decide on a definition of gender ... if gender is only physical then you're correct ... but if you define it as a state of mind then you have real problems with only "two" genders
10:25 am
dan2bit
hang on tight to your definition of normal, benji. It won't hurt anybody who doesn't fit it
10:25 am
benji5550122
well not really, identifying as something in your mind doesnt change reality
10:25 am
benji5550122
is that sarcasm i hear?
10:26 am
doseffing
... unfortunately ... it does cause problems ... because people start saying boys behave in one way and girls behave in another and if you don't behave in that way there's something wrong with you ...
10:27 am
benji5550122
im not saying you cant believe you are something, there are people who believe they are animals on the inside, its called otherkin, im ok with someone identfying themselves how they want, but when they demand that I call them something that I believe to be biologically incorrect, thats when the problem starts
10:27 am
benji5550122
nobody says that, its just generally men and women are biologically predetermined to behave certtain ways
10:30 am
bonkler
denying another person's reality doesn't change it. people's genders are more complex than wiener/not-wiener. trans folk have been with us throughout history and recognized to one degree or another by different cultures. the Abrahamic faiths have always bred repressive, violent cultures that confine gender roles through force. Medical and sociological evidence doesn't support simplistic binary declarations.
10:30 am
doseffing
.... sorry ... that is not correct ... or not correct enough ... there is too much of a social influence into behavior patterns to say it's biologically predetermined ...
10:31 am
benji5550122
i meant generally
10:32 am
benji5550122
of course humans are smart enough to recognizes instincts and can act against them, but there is a reason that 99.97% of people identify as what gender their genitals match, there is a reason boys and girls inherently act differently.
10:32 am
doseffing
... when I'm a teen I listened to adults saying that girls can't play hockey because they'll get cut and scarred and that shouldn't happen to girls ,,, but no one would say that boys shouldn't be cut and scarred and loses their teeth ...
10:33 am
cybernan
apparently girls still can't play hockey -- at least they can't have a national league
10:33 am

ch1212
May I interject? I have a friend who doesn't feel like his given birth name of Donald, and thinks he should have been named Trevor. He refuses to answer to any name but Trevor. Now, I know his birth name is Donald, but out of courtesy I call him by his preferred name. It's a matter of simple respect. By the same token, I have a friend who has had plastic surgery to look more like the woman she wants to see in the mirror. The truth of course, is that she wasn't born that way. But out of simple courtesy for her choices (and her preference that I not refer to her birth nose) I don't correct her.
If someone prefers to be referred to as he or she or they, I think it's courteous to respect their wishes.
10:34 am
benji5550122
thats wrong, but it does stem from the fact that we are a sexually dimorphic species, where men on average are stronger than women. not always just in general. k bye'
10:35 am
benji5550122
of course if you respect the person, i may disagree but if my friend wanted to be called whatever i would call them that, but random strangers do not get to demand or pass legislation restricting my free speech for the sake of feelings
10:37 am
rururocks
I think it's about equal rights for all people Benji isn't it?
10:38 am
therealblah
"random strangers do not get to demand or pass legislation" Doesn't that pretty much describe the entire Congress? lol
10:38 am
benji5550122
of course, everyone deserves equal rights, but nobody deserves extra rights, like laws that make it illegal to 'misgender' someone
10:38 am
ch1212
Agreed, ruru. In a perfect world, every one would behave respectfully. But alas, some people need legislation to treat others decently.
10:38 am
benji5550122
legislation restricting free speech
10:39 am
benji5550122
A UK journalist is now under police investigation for 'misgendering' someone. thats the problem with laws restricting so called 'hate speech'
10:39 am
rururocks
what do you mean by restricting free speech?
10:40 am
cybernan
I think we were better off when personal preferences remained personal -- as in private. I don't see the need for "coming out", public demonstrations, and parades to celebrated differences --- enough already!
10:40 am
benji5550122
In Canada, the UK, Sweden, and pretty much of the modernized European countries have laws against 'hate speech' including misgendering
10:41 am
bonkler
Generalities are insufficient to the realities of life. Millions of people live in the LGBTQ communities. Here in very liberal minded Canada, it was illegal to be gay 50 years ago. It was an abomination. The parochial religious nonsense trumped the biological reality. Trans people are biologically different, this is supported by an increasing body of medical evidence. Erasing them by pointing at genitals is wrong.
A name isn't a biological trait. Donald or Trevor or XC-95-Blork the name is not who the person is. My given name is Lindsay, as a guy, I've sent my whole life with people being surprised when they first meet me because hat's a girl name. small numbers of people are who they are, regardless of what others see.
10:41 am
benji5550122
that can be true but it is still restricting free speech to arrest someone for not calling someone a pronoun
10:42 am
ch1212
Let's be honest about 'free speech' in the U.S. There are currently hundreds of laws that restrict speech. Here's a snippet from a website that lists the basic nine categories of restricted speech: Although different scholars view unprotected speech in different ways, there are basically nine categories:
Obscenity
Fighting words
Defamation (including libel and slander)
Child pornography
Perjury
Blackmail
Incitement to imminent lawless action
True threats
Solicitations to commit crimes
Some experts also would add treason, if committed verbally, to that list. Plagiarism of copyrighted material is also not protected.
10:42 am
rururocks
Nan.. I have to disagree with you there.. that's really old guard and not what the "coming" out is all about
10:42 am
benji5550122
and why mix the LGB with the T? Transgenderism effectively throws out sexuality, if men can be women, and women can be men, then being homosexual or strait or whatever is meaningless
10:43 am
cybernan
I still say Get. A. Room.
10:43 am
benji5550122
ch thats not free speech because that directly calls for immediate action, like fire in a crowded theater when there is no fire, but simply saying something offensive is not illegal
10:44 am
rururocks
because its for rights for a larger group of people, covering all kinds of people
10:44 am
ch1212
One more note: THANK YOU - each of you - for keeping this discussion civil :)
10:44 am
benji5550122
i can say 'i dont like X group, I think X group should die' that is protected, but if say 'I am going to kill X group' that is a call to action
10:44 am
benji5550122
no problem
10:45 am

exactly, so why the need to put what happens in people's bedrooms on display --- you don't see heterosexual parades --- I'm not objecting to the preferences of others, I just don't want it shoved in my face -- I have rights too

Good morning from a new babbler. See some people found all words... how does that happen? Lol I'm not even close.
3:38 pm
ChampFit
Some have been playing this for many years, and have retained a lot of words. Also, there are "helps" available, from the clues, and morewords or A to Z.

7:14 pm
Bugsaw
Butter wouldn't melt in your mouth, huh. You are too funny.
7:15 pm

Hi Mark. I am not supposed to be here so nobody notice. I am supposed to be looking for a new dress to wear to my son's wedding but I am not 6' tall, slim or young. It is so discouraging.
7:16 pm
Bugsaw
ruru loves to play with words mark so if you get him going it never ends. . . it just goes on and on my friend
7:17 pm
rururocks
heck.. i only stick around for the jokes
7:18 pm
Bugsaw
and I can't keep up but some people here are just as skilled and it is fun to watch you guys go back and forth
7:19 pm
rururocks
it's just the way my brain works.. it's like tourettes syndrome of punning
7:20 pm
MollyL
Mother of the Groom dresses are so hard to find. They are either slutty or matronly and there is very little in between. It took me forever to find the right dress for my son's wedding.
7:20 pm
rururocks
what's wrong with Slutty?
7:21 pm
MollyL
I have no problem with slightly slutty in the right circumstances. But not when my role for the day was Mother of The Groom.
7:22 pm
rururocks
can you go to Vancouver Bugs to look? There has to be options there
7:24 pm
MollyL
Mother of The Groom dress can't be too short, I don't do long. You can't show too much cleavage. Then there are the shoes, they can't have too high of a heel, but I like a pretty, strappy shoe. It took forever but I found something that worked for me and looked like me.
7:27 pm
rururocks
i think Bugs would look great in emerald Green or teal/bluegreen colors
7:29 pm
MollyL
I had to go with the colors my girlie-in-law picked, but I did okay in cornflower blue, even though that is not my color of choice.
7:30 pm
rururocks
men don't have to worry about color.. just if it fits
7:32 pm
wht
And for father of the groom and father of the bride, you don't even have to buy something. You can just rent it. And the store will make sure it fits.
7:34 pm
MollyL
I envied all the men in rented tuxes that day.
: D
7:35 pm
MollyL
I will say this, those kids of mine had the nicest ceremony and the most fun reception ever. I loved their special day and had a lot of fun celebrating with them.
7:37 pm
Bugsaw
My kids are being good and not requiring anything in particular but Molly is right about how hard it is to find something that no-one can find offensive. I will be going to Victoria and Nanaimo to shop but Vancouver is too big.
7:42 pm
Bugsaw
I am having fun with this wedding. They are a great couple who are both sensible and committed. She comes with the nicest 8 year old son ever. She is sending me links to dresses I might like and that would look good on me. I like most of them which is another good sign.
7:44 pm
Bugsaw
I asked about the service and they said they weren't sure about that yet. Church is not a part of their lives so they were planning the party and the honeymoon first. I loved it.
7:44 pm
rururocks
that's cute.. i hope it's a great time bugs
7:45 pm
rururocks
we diidn't mention god in our ceremony and i thought a few of my aunts were doing to die on the spot
7:54 pm
Bugsaw
They haven't decided if they will get married in some government office earlier in the day and come to the party allready set or if they will have a JP come to the party and do it in front of us all.
7:57 pm
rururocks
i go for the JP.. it's worth the trouble.. but ultimately it's their decision
8:02 pm
Bugsaw
My thoughts exactly ru but I am not making suggestions. I don't want to be a meddling mother.
8:03 pm
rururocks
yes.. you just get dressed up and be gracious and warm and loving
8:03 pm
rururocks
then you win
8:04 pm
Bugsaw
Everybody wins then
8:05 pm
rururocks
my dogs are pressuring me to feed them.. hope it's a great time.. when's the wedding by the way
8:06 pm
MollyL
The worst weddings are the ones in which parents interfere to inject their own preferences. That is not what it's all about.
8:07 pm
rururocks
mine tried to control the whole thing.. right from the start.. it was awful
8:09 pm
MollyL
I will never understand why parents think that their kids wedding is something they should have some control over.
8:11 pm
Bugsaw
Sorry for the delay. May 11
8:12 pm
Bugsaw
I am with you Molly but I am astonished by the stories that I am hearing about the bride dictating what the parents are too wear right down to the proper accessories. I figure those will be short marriages.
8:21 pm

And our world continues to crumble . . . Tonight, we have our first African-America female mayor (this is great, although a known outcome, as this was a runoff, both candidates black women), also our first openly gay mayor (again, great), wins with close to 75% of the vote (again, great!!!). Why am I so gloomy-doomy? Less than 500,000 votes cast - FOR MAYOR! That's 30% of registered voters. This is the 3rd largest city in the country. Do the apathy math. Hopefully, the Light will shine.
