I always used the hyphens in the past; but on my iPad it couldnâ€™t tell how many hyphens there were & it told me to do this; & itâ€™s easier.for me to see how many letters I need.

Wow, I really don't like the new Morewords format. The font is smaller and you have to use question marks instead of dashes to search a word. Whatever happened to "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"

It is smaller, but you can still use dashes... Find dictionary words for crossword puzzles and word games
Use a hyphen (dash) to give the location of a missing letter: w-rd or -are

Use an asterisk (star) for any number of unknown letters: lett* or *gry or ar*ct

Exclude words containing the letters that follow a caret (hat): ma-e ^kt

I use my own custom spreadsheet developed from an online dictionary. I am willing to share a link to it if anyone is interested. It is in Excel so you would need that application to use it.

I constructed it using a program I wrote to scan the dictionary database, selecting only words with 4 to 12 letters and placing them in a text file. Then import to Excel and use an Excel formula to construct the clue format, e.g. no 7,40. The "qu" words were a little trickier - had to tweak the formula several times to get it right. I regret I did not include the definitions but I still have the source database and may redo it.

I got the idea from collection words from previous puzzles and storing them in a spreadsheet - mainly as a way of keeping track of "babblets." Then when that got too unwieldy I came up with the idea of building my own clue dictionary.

I do not use the Morewords site per se, but just type my request into my google browser and then always choose the Morewords site. e.g., I type in "7 letter words starting with f", and then choose Morewords. The only difference I have noticed in the last few days is that the words are displayed differently, not in a long single line. It seems to be working perfectly doing it that way.
