Jeff and Hannah's mum split when Hannah was a baby and he had to fight hard to get access. The mother is Algerian, so he actually had to get a court order to prevent her from absconding abroad with her. As a result, he's always treasured all the time he got with her (even when she became an EXTREMELY moody teenager and young adult - just locking herself in her room for the whole time
