Carla, we were supposed to have another global conference and vote earlier this year that would hopefully have settled things, but it was rescheduled due to the virus. I really don't know what the future holds. I think a split is inevitable; it's a question of which side ends up with the name. After the official split it will get ugly at the local congregation level, because few congregations are made up of people who all agree. We failed by wasting a lot of years not insisting on talking about it at the local level. When I was sent to serve one particular church, the council told me at the first meeting that I was never, ever, to talk about two thing: stewardship and homosexuality. Jesus talked about stewardship a lot, and was silent on homosexuality. They didn't like me much by the time I got moved somewhere else!
