Good morning, mkg.

Hey mkg :-)
8:29 am

Scrabs, Is it true that 12 y.o.s will be able to get the vaccine by the end of the summer?
8:29 am
hurshy
nice up6 word today
8:30 am
Scrabbler
Maybe sooner. Pfizer has applied for approval for 12-15 years old.
8:30 am
bichon
Yeah, that takes care of the grands
8:30 am
mkg
Any clue for that up 6 word hurshy?
8:30 am
Scrabbler
I want babies and kids immunized ASAP.
8:31 am
mkg
Question is what to do with smaller ones i guess.
8:31 am
mael
can't wait for little kids to be eligible too
8:31 am
hurshy
Parliament was in an up6 when ending slavery was first proposed
8:31 am
mael
I have a 7 and 5 year old and and waiting until 2022 is going to be nerve wracking
8:31 am
Scrabbler
And I do expect CoV vaccines to be required for school enrollment. We need this.
8:31 am
72 Temple Owl
what difference does it make if vaccinated people. liek those int he nursing home down south, are still infacted and worse yets, asymptomatically?
8:32 am
mkg
Super clue. Ty. Got it.
8:32 am
Scrabbler
Because immunized people will not get seriously ill or die even if infected.
8:32 am
mkg
Wasted double Ds in grid. Too bad.
8:33 am
mael
I hope they'll be required. The flu vaccine was required for school enrollment this year in MA (not just public school, all schools including day cares and at home)
8:33 am
72 Temple Owl
but if asymptomatic, because of the mild case, they will spread it.
8:33 am
mael
and our flu cases were almost non-existent, though masks helped with that too obviously
8:33 am
Scrabbler
I did not know that, mael. The flu vaccine is optional here in NY.
8:33 am
mkg
I wish they would test for antibodies. There are likely many who dont know they had covid. And we are wasting vaccines on them.
8:33 am
72 Temple Owl
and have no idea. and it will never end.
8:34 am
mkg
Small kids are usually asymptomatic too......
8:34 am
mkg
Flu vaccine optiional everywhere.
8:34 am
Scrabbler
Owl, that is the nature of the virus, but immunized folks are protected. The unimmunized are at high risk.
8:34 am
mael
it's not usually mandated but it was this year
8:34 am
mael
and I was very glad for it
8:34 am
mkg
Also there are adults who cant get vaccinated. My friend has so many terrible illnesses her MD said she should not get vaccinated.
8:34 am
Scrabbler
mkg, immunity after illness is temporary, maybe 3 mo, so they still need a vaccine.
8:35 am
72 Temple Owl
if not protected from infection, how can you call that protection>
8:35 am
mael
and that's why everyone who CAN get vaccinated should be, to protect those who can't be
8:35 am
Scrabbler
Owl, because the vaccines prevent hospitalization and death.
8:35 am
mael
it's, at the very least, protection from SEVERE infection. Which is the goal.
8:36 am
72 Temple Owl
a friend finally got her long haul trucker the J&J. three days later he became il.. she had to do the whole quarantine thing as well.
8:36 am
mkg
My husband had covid last may and stil has very high antibodies. He got first vaccine and got very very ill from it. So all the MDs he works with at NIH decided he should not get second vaccine.
8:36 am
mael
well yeah, three days in you are not protected at all
8:36 am
hurshy
ooh, fancy cr8 word!
8:36 am
mkg
They told him that the first vaccine is enough for him with his very high antibodies.
8:36 am
72 Temple Owl
scrabbler, no one knows what the effects of this virus wil be despitethe course of the disease.
8:37 am
Scrabbler
I must get ready for a day of hiking. ENjoy the day.
8:37 am
mael
and if the symptoms developed three days after the shot it is incredibly likely that they were infected before they even got the vaccine
8:37 am
mkg
No one knows much at this point. In 5 years they will know a lot i guess
8:37 am
mael
ywah, the cr8 is a great word
8:37 am
Scrabbler
Owl, the virus is nasty, nasty.
8:38 am
mkg
Cant find R word bottom row R. Any hints and stats? Ty
8:38 am
72 Temple Owl
yes. symptoms or not. no telling.
8:39 am
hurshy
mkg, you just take the c off the cr8
8:39 am
mkg
Ty but dont have the cr 8 yet either. Looking.
8:39 am

cr8 is a casino employee
8:42 am

8:43 am

Does anyone have a clue for the E words second column E? Ty
8:47 am

so 8s are cr, de, and...?
8:48 am
hurshy
ty, got it
8:48 am
72 Temple Owl
ro7/36 is comparative, not superlative form
8:48 am
hurshy

Yaaa! I finally get my first COVID shot today!! It is will be of the AstraZeneca variety, and I have no reservations whatsoever, given the 1/100,000 odds of a potential blot clot. I stand better odds of getting run over by a car stepping out my door this morning, so bring it on. With our ICU beds overflowing, and hospitals transferring patients all over just to find a bed, and all hospitals on the cusp of emergency triage measures, I will not be choosy when it comes to what type of vaccine I get.
9:09 am
hokie carla
got my 2nd moderna yesterday. not doing great right now but hoping to feel better soon. like you, I would have taken any of them. good luck!
9:13 am
Smdnjv
Sorry to iintrude on your conversation Carla, but I took 1st Moderna and was sore and tired for about 10 days. I heard 2nd was worse bur I must have been given a placebo, my 2nd didn't bother me at all.
9:15 am
hokie carla
yeah, it's kinda random how the 2nd affects people. my son got his yesterday too but I haven't seen him yet this morning to see how he is. one of my brothers had no side effects on 2nd shot at all.
9:16 am
Smdnjv
Funny how that works! Or not so funny to some.
9:20 am
crosshair
There has been such a surge in demand for a timely vaccine that our province of British Columbia is running out of AstraZeneca. As it turns out, the U.S is sitting on a stockpile of unwanted or unapproved AstraZeneca, and our P.M is actively trying to secure a supply while it is still fit to use.
9:20 am
hurshy
crossy, i believe all 6 people who got those blood clots were women, so they're wondering if this is a gendered problem, which means you'd have even less to worry about
9:20 am
hokie carla
I had read a few weeks ago that we were giving them to canada and mexico
9:21 am
crosshair
The chemo drugs I had years ago (Cisplatin) stood more of a chance of killing me that this vaccine does.
9:21 am
hurshy
i'm sure that is true!
9:22 am
hokie carla
yeah, there is a much much higher chance of getting struck by lightning
9:24 am
hurshy
i mean, they don't even know for sure that those blood clots WERE connected to the vaccine, so
9:25 am
crosshair
I just cannot take the chance. I am an essential service employee in the food service industry. As such 2000-3000 untested customers come through our doors every single day. We cannot temp check them, we cannot ask them if they are coming from a "hot zone." I think I am getting my shot just in time, as this "third wave" is set to be terrible.
9:25 am
hurshy
*hugs* to you crossy
9:26 am
crosshair
Even at 25% capacity, we still have to let up to 165 costumers in at a time. :( That is the negative part of a giant "big-box" store.

9:36 am

i don't understand why it's taking Canada so long to get vaccines rolling
9:36 am
cybernan
wondered after reading your comments. Everyone has to wear masks in stores here and no indoor eating -- not even at costco. Indoor tasting at wineries also closed. And no non-essential travel outside each health authority. We are supposedly getting more travel retrictions today. This is all in effect until after the May long weekend.
9:36 am
crosshair
We are far behind the curve in comparison to the U.S. :(
9:37 am
crosshair
We have no indoor eating at all, no gyms, no hairstylists, etc.
9:38 am
crosshair
I think we have 22% of the population with the first vaccine done at this time.
9:38 am
crosshair
yesterday we banned all flights inbound from India.
9:39 am
cybernan
There are a couple of reasons ru - the main ones being we don't manufacture vaccines here, so we are dependent on getting them from other countries -- mainly UK and India and some from the US. Also we are more sparsely populated, so accessibility and storage is a problem.
9:39 am
rururocks
well then India will get even with you with Robo calls telling you your credit card has illegal charges on it
9:39 am

Dang it!!! Sorry.

Also - we cannot have drive through vaccination centres like they did in CA (too cold) and vaccinations other than astra zeneca are not being distributed to drug stores.
9:42 am
rururocks
I'd say poor planning then on your health system's part
9:42 am
crosshair
They already drive us crazy anytime we need tech support from any U.S electronics company--not much will change Ruru.
9:43 am
crosshair
yes, our government dropped the ball on this, and only now are we just beginning to see some hope.
9:44 am
cybernan
Are you getting your shot at a drugstore or a clinic crossy?
9:48 am
rururocks
I'm mean if you're in groceries and literally interacting with the public (mostly unvaccinated) and you're a critical worker, getting it now is really, really late.
9:50 am
cybernan
the BC gov't has been on top of this from the beginning, but you can only do so much with what you are given. Our biggest problem is convincing the tourists to stay home. The vaccine roll out here has been age based after health care workers and nursing home residents.
9:52 am
rururocks
we're vaccinating 16 year olds now in the USA. Biden has really done a great job on getting this out
9:52 am
cybernan
easier to do when you have the vaccine.
9:53 am
bichon
soon it will be 12 y.o.'s
9:53 am

i am trying to convince my nephews to get their vaccines.. they are reluctant to do it. Probably based on what they've read in chat rooms or something
9:53 am

We have been held up for a week at a time twice now because we had no vaccine coming in.
9:56 am

9:59 am

too bad the social media posters probably don't understand the phrase "unencumbered by expertise"

10:07 am

I am having cataracts removed in a couple of months, so had to go for related eye scans yesterday. The clinic of course insists on all the coviid protocols, takes temps, as you go in - the whole nine yards. The technician (a woman in her 30's) ,whose mask was hanging below her nose most of the time, infomed me when I asked her to pull it up that she didn't believe in masks and because she has asthma they bothered her. Then proceded to tell me that she thought masks were an infringement of her rights and privacy. Following which she proceded to tell me about a wine tasting tour to the south end of the valley she and her friends were planning for this weekend. I was cooped up in a tiny office with no ventillation with this woman for at least 3/4 of an hour. I still feel like reporting her.
10:08 am
crosshair
I would.
10:08 am

I am asthmatic, and have to wear a mask non-stop for eight hours a day.

10:08 am

I would too.. especially to the doctor
10:09 am

There is the rub -- won't see the doctor again until the day of the surgery (in June)

it is an easy procedure, cybernan, as long as the cataracts are not "to ripe." 20 minutes in and out and the results are instantaneous. My beloved had hers done a decade ago.

quick Wiki lookup -- panelist on What's My Line. Not Canadian! Yep, before my time. I'm a TV buff but I don't know who would have been on What's My Line.
11:12 am
cybernan
no - not the host - he was on the panel of What's My Line along with Arlene Francis and Dorothy Killgalen. John DAly was the host.

There was a similar program on Candian TV hosted by FRed Davis called Front Page Challenge. The contestants had to guess the news story being represented rather than the line of work.
11:14 am
cybernan
both were good quiz shows - forerunners of Jeopardy

I've actually seen, btw, an episode of the *original* incarnation of The Price is Right. Such a different show back then before Bob Barker!

remember the first "Wheel" shows and the ceramic dalmation?
11:18 am
dauber
Earliest WOF shows I remember is when the contestant's disembodied head would float around the showcase and choose overpriced prizes with their money and the rest would either be stashed or go on a gift certificate.
11:18 am
cybernan
yes - and one of those prizes was a ceramic dalmation

am reminded of "Truth or Consequences" - with the little box of drawers on a little pedestal, with drawers that spewed springy joke stuff (like the fake cans of nuts) when you picked the wrong one. Wasn't that Bob B. also?
11:47 am
dauber
Barker definitely hosted Truth or Consequences -- he mentioned it a lot on TPIR.

so I did some school stuff this morning, then drove an hour each way to pick up a big wooden spool for the goats, visited a nursery on the way home, got home, let the goats out for their daily, set in four more fence posts, fed goats, realized we had a sink clog, drove around for way too long trying to find drain cleaner stuff, and then got home to ake dinner.
